Shinkalion Change the World Ep 33: A Deeper Darkness
After the previous episode, Ryota and Taisei had to recollect themselves and think about what they must do when Reiji attack next. Thankfully, they are surrounded by people who support them and help them forward. With their determination renewed, the two is ready to head to battle. But this time, Reiji isn’t going to make it any easier for them – as he’s bringing another upgrade to further his darkness.

Well we first start with Ryota and Taisei visiting Akane. Even though Akane’s fine, they both feel guilty about not joining the fight and it caused Akane to sustain “some” injuries. Akane did tell them they need to think about what they’ll do next time because that’s their main mission as Shinkalion Drivers. Ryota’s actually quite quick to figure it out for himself. You may call him simple-minded or an idiot but that’s really his charm – as straightforward as his drills. This time, Mai didn’t have to slap any sense into him, he figured it out on his own – which is nice. But also I feel that Mai hasn’t gotten any significant development lately aside from being “there” as a bridge bunny. Would love to see some more Ryota x Mai moments after.
For Taisei, he’s more conflicted than Ryota. I guess since Reiji used to have the same ambition as Reiji – to become a cool person, and both of them got that from Ina, so he kinda feel like what Reiji’s doing is “justified” I guess. He doesn’t know if it’s okay to deny Reiji his chance of getting back at the people he considered the ones imprisoning them for 7 long years in isolation. I think Taisei know it’s wrong but morally – what happened to Reiji was so horrible that it felt “justified” to let him do it. Since a normal apology definitely wouldn’t cut it. But still, he was in turmoil mentally.

But still, he was in turmoil mentally.

Thankfully, he has a very advanced and capable companion who is also needy at the same time. Vina knocked Taisei out of his trance and refocus his attention to the reality in front of him. Also all the other Shinkalion Drivers send him support videos to cheer him up. It’s like something out of a sports manga lol. Shion’s video is probably the funniest one with her jumping around and falling on purpose, but that’s probably the most traditional japanese thing ever. And most of all, Ina was there to deliver the clincher. She knows what she’ll do to drag Reiji out and help him, even if it means smacking him in the face (which is very Ina-like). The person who was closest to Reiji and probably hurt the most when finding out what happened to him is now determined, and Taisei cannot just keep wallowing in self-doubt. So, he took a step towards the right direction.
And just on cue, the Hades Shinkalion appeared once again. This time, Ryota joined Ganma and Akane from the start and engage Reiji. And they pulled off something quite unexpected. The SRG combination between the E5, E6 and E8 look pretty good. And the Crossbow is pretty sick as well. The damage is massive crazy enough to pin down the Hades like a cushion pin. But last ep, Reiji did mentioned they had to update the Hades, and indeed they did. They summoned an old “nemesis” – the Phantom Shinkalion. And they pulled off that “thing”, you know, “that thing”. Of course it’s the gattai between the Hades, Phantom as well as their support units. And the result is even more badass than the SRG.

Reiji’s new Shinkalion is called Chaos Shinkalion – and I think that name is quite fitting. The overall combination gimmick is similar to the SRG system – well, half of it. The other half is pretty unique and actually quite well thought out. Well, the toy ads have been out for weeks so the overall design has been known for a while, but seeing it in animation is another thing altogether. The asymmetrical design was really nice and really fit the name “Chaos”. Of course, since it’s a debut of the new form, it easily overpowers the SRG, but a hero always arrive fashionably late – Taisei and Morito arrive just in time in their Shinkalions to assist.
One of the things that is quite different from previous series is that the E5 doesn’t use it Gran Cross often – actually I think Taisei only use it once. The rest were just Beyblade Slash. I think this time, Taisei will use it with the Dr. Yellow combination. And it will look glorious. But we’ll have to wait until the next episode. Another thing though, I’m not sure if this will be the final arc for the series, because if so, this anime will be roughly around Z’s length, which is much shorter than the original. Let’s see how they resolve Reiji’s arc and then discover the true nature of the Unknown.
