Shinkalion Change the World Ep 36: The End of ERDA…Or is it?
After another special episode, we get back to the main story. Shinkalion: Change The World only has 4 episodes left, so this is where we start the final resolution. It’s a bit disappointing to see it end so soon, especially after seeing the show tackling some very mature and thought-provoking topic that really set itself apart from the other Shinkalions. Well, all good things must come to and end I guess…but not in this episode…as Vina is still missing, and ERDA’s fate seems to be heading for a bad end(?)

We got a few moments with Ryota and Reiji in the hospital. It’s kinda sad to see Ryota finally meeting his saviour but Reiji has already changed so much. The man before him is no longer the naive and heroic Shinkalion Driver that saved him from before, but Reiji has accepted his fate as a misguided criminal and is prepared to take any punishment. Reiji certainly doesn’t think highly enough of himself to be anyone’s idol. And Ryota seems very disappointed in that. Makes sense since Ryota’s bond with the Shinkalion and ERDA all started from him, all of his aspiration and drive are from the white-haired man in front of him. Truth be told, I feel that Ryota’s character arc throughout the series is even better than Taisei, and of course better than everyone else.

Now, Kacchan called everyone to ERDA and told them that the majority of ERDA will be disbanded. Since Unknowns will not likely be appearing anymore, maintaining 9 Shinkalions all over Japan is not the a good idea. Some people will still be working under the ERDA name, mostly in the Development division where they will monitor and find a way to deal with the leftover abandoned data that Tender left behind. Kacchan said that Reiji will be working with ERDA too, with Ina proclaimed that she will find a way to find a satisfactory use for the data. And knowing Ina, I’m sure she can do it. Reiji is basically still reeling himself back as well as trying to atone. But with Ina’s and everyone’s support, I’m sure he can find happiness again, especially if he can reunite with his family.
The meeting between the Shinkalion Drivers afterwards was quite brutal. Everyone was having some very mixed feelings. Since the world will be much safer now, but a large part of their bond – the Shinkalions – will be gone. They won’t be able to fight alongside each other anymore. However, they can still meet up in the Metaverse from time to time, which doesn’t make it sound so bad. Yamato tried to cheer everyone up by talking about their other aspirations aside from Shinkalions. But that kinda set Ryota off, since he doesn’t really have any concrete plans for the future – and he thought he would be fighting against the Unknowns for much longer. i think the fact that Reiji and Tender was the one behind it really hit him hard, if it was some kind of evil organization or aliens, he’d definitely be less upset. He did told Taisei that he sometimes with the Unknown would keep on coming. If they are just “pure evil”, then it’s fine for them to keep fighting against them and keep ERDA going.

But then…an Unknown did appeared. This shock everyone, especially Ryota. Nevertheless, the Drivers dispatched promptly. And was able to take down the Unknow. Furthermore, Ina was able to trace the source of the abandoned data that created it. And it seems someone was controlling it. Taisen and Ina rushed in, and indeed, they caught a glimpse of none other than…Vina. It seems Taisei’s final challenge will be none other than his closest “partner”. And one more thing, if you pay close attention in the opening, you’ll see a sequence with a black E5 Hayabusa – which suggest someone has got the E5’s data and create a dark version of it. And from this episode, we can deduce that it is none other than Vina herself. During the preview for the next episode, we see Vina again…seemingly taken over by an unknown dark force…And only Taisei can make it right.
