Red Sentai Isekai Ep 2 Review: Boukensha no Kizuna!
After a very interesting start, episode 2 of Sentai Red Isekai give us another true-blue Sentai episode – with the power of “friendship” written all over it, along with some very hilarious Tokusatsu jokes that both Toku fans and “normal” anime fans can appreciate as well. Agasaki Tougo show us why he is the relentless, unapologetic red hot Senshi this season.

This ep, we got the proper opening for the series – which is pretty nice. The song is energetic and is very suitable for Red’s explosiveness. Although it has a more “modern” tone rather than the classic rough man vocal, it definitely suits his “adventure” in this world. The animation is pretty fire (literally) and really resembles a normal Sentai opening – but with more focus on Red himself (of course).
We start the episode with some fun Tokusatsu stuff when Tougo showed Yidhra his stat card. Tougo’s “stat card” in this world is unique. Instead of showing the usual RPG numbers like strength, hp, mana, agi, int, etc… His stat card show his height, weight, and something that is VERY familiar with Kamen Rider fans: kicking power, punching power and jumping power. The only thing missing is running speed lol. And of course, the numbers are incredibly ridiculous if we use our world’s standard. But in this new world, it may just be a bit over the norm as Tougo doesn’t seem to be Superman in this world. But yes, his entire status card is basically a Kamen Rider stat page as usually seen on Toei’s website.
More hilarity ensues as the two dudes from ep 1 show up again and started some beef with Tougo and Yidhra. And we find some pretty classic rom-com flirting between two oblivious young people who are too pure to see what their actions might imply. We also get to see a rare Yidhra swimsuit fantasy – although sadly it’s by the two adventurers that were just salty about ep 1.

Then we get a dungeon brawling sequence with Tougo, Yidhra and the 2 dudes from from before. It’s kinda funny that even though those 2 play a pretty big part this episode, we don’t know their names at all. Yidhra and Tougo even used a very “dangerous” moment to flirt in front of those 2, flexing their incredible power. The Turbo Huddle from Tougo is really insane – I think it’s more suitable to be a Kamen Rider gimmick more than Sentai – since it’s adaptability is pretty crazy. It can act as a booster, a shield, it can shrink, or enlarge, and probably more. The Kizuna Turbo Kick is definitely a Rider Kick reference, furthermore, he also has a 60,000-degree punch as a finisher – much like many other Riders. It’s true that without his team here, Tougo feels more like a Kamen Rider than a Super Senshi. Well, I guess he’s very Kyoryu Red in that sense – since he literally punched a monster IN HIS HUMAN FORM.
The only thing that tells people that Tougo is Sentai is his ability to summon his team’s Gattai. But they definitely know they can’t lean into the giant robot too much – since the focus is on the character for this ep, so they make the Kizuna Kaiser stuck at the entrance and can’t venture further in. However, they also make it so that the summoning of the Mech also crushes some monsters at the end – which was pretty funny. And it also make fun of the usual “question” that “Why doesn’t the Sentai just summon the mech at the start and crushes the monsters?”. So far, this episode has been very light-hearted and funny. It’s also reminiscent of those isekais where the main cast is so powerful that the enemies are basically accessories to their showing.

But then we get to some more serious stuff. A strong monster appears that is very similar to the usual monster that Tougo fought with his team in his original world. And of course, because they required all 5 member of the team to defeat the monster, it is a difficult enemy here as well. It’s very meta where Tougo’s flashback to his previous enemy also got an episode number and a title as well – basically like Sanger’s chuuni intro in SRW OG Inspector. And yeah dropping bits and pieces of the actual “Kizuna Five” series here and there make us wonder if we can get a full series for them someday (probably not lol). In the flashback, we get to see Red and Blue defeat the MotW Rejectiondra (voiced by none other than the Joyful Knight Canderilla in Kyoryuger – Haruka Tomatsu herself). I think that aside from the main cast – they’ll get as many Toku actors as possible into the series’ support roles.
Now there’s something such as if you play something too serious, it might become a bit…cringy. But I guess we can all use some good old heroism and power of bonds. Tougo managed to get the two other dudes on-board to help him. I guess that just goes to show Tougo’s infectious charisma in getting people to “trust” him thanks to his over-the-top confidence and explosive personality. The team summoned a giant Galleon Bus…I mean Kizuna Buster – and performed a good old Super Sentai Hissatsu shot. Afterwards, the four of them (I guess technically just the other three) were “molded” into hero poses by the law of Super Sentai – one that can obviously transcend the multiverse XD.
Overall, this episode is very fun and entertaining to watch. We got to see some Toku references, as well as some funky rom-com that we rarely see in many Super Sentais. We got a very nice cameo from Haruka Tomatsu, as well as a pretty badass fight scene. And I must say, you can’t really see it when Tougo is in his human form, but when he put on the Latex suit, dude’s jacked as hell. Next episode will introduce the next two members of Tougo’s “party”, which will be a fun one to see their reaction to Tougo’s absurd power.
