Red Sentai Isekai Ep 5 Review: Dark Premonition

After uniting with your rival and defeating the human-sized villain, what do the Sentai do? Of course, it’s combining and fight against the giant-sized monster that just suddenly appeared. This time, we’re going full Axis Drop as a giant devil face stare down at the town – just like a certain game with a blond kid as a protagonist. And in this episode, the sound effect you’ll hear the most is “Hazard On!”

Well, we said it’s an Axis Drop scenario, but it’s nowhere near that serious. Red summoned the Maximum Kizuna Kaiser, This time with Lowji inside, making it a total of four people. That’s more than Abaranger so it’s definitely qualified as a sentai. I really like the fact that Red gave Lowji the access to use the sword, which reminds me of Shinkenger, and we also get a space Obari pose which is pretty rare, and it’s pretty cool. The Kizuna Kaiser easily slashes the meteor apart and saves the town.

However when they return they are met with tragedy. I don’t know why anime is obsessed with clowns but we get another villain that is a Jester. And he spoke in a very, very irritating tone. His words use Japanese but if you pay attention to the English subs they made it French, I believe it is due to the voice actress or voice actor can’t pronounce French words so they just keep in Japanese, but for him I can see him speaking in Japan/French kind of thing. And of course he is very irritating. But there is one thing that he said that’s very intriguing. He said that he doesn’t have the time nor the effort to spare for otherworlders like red, implying that he has encountered otherworlders before.

Of course a villain wouldn’t be a villain without spouting some really crazy and evil schemes that really give us the creeps, and it’s pretty wild that with just a few minutes he was able to turn all the villagers that we saw before into monsters by giving them mana seeds. Even in Sentai this trope is not very common but it is not impossible which is understandable why Red is super angry about it. However it has more to do with his words and Lowji taking a blow for him that stir up some past trauma inside of Red that kind of trigger him. And we see the scene where Nikaido/Kizuna Silver was killed. if you read the manga you know the significance of this event and that was enough to send Red into a frenzy. He got so angry he started emitting a black Aura. It’s not too much a Berserker form since I think he still has some form of control over his actions however it is very obvious that he was overtaken by rage and anger that really boosts his power but also inhibit his decision making and probably make him not aware of his surroundings.

This is quite different to a dark senshi and I think Super Sentai don’t use this mode very often it’s more of a Kamen Rider thing. Mostly in Sentai we see the rangers got controlled by the villains or they’re just evil clones or something like that, but here Red did just went hazard on.

We’re also introduced to a new characters this episode, which if you recall Yidhra’s words in the previous episodes, the Royal family has a powerful mage called the Royal Scepter. and this episode mark her debut, the current Royal Scepter is a blonde-haired woman with tremendous magical powers, as she was able to beat back the Jester pretty easily as well as summon Cthulhu (I’m sure it’s not the actual Great Old One but still). She acts very cocky and doesn’t really respect Yidhra at all. I guess with her powers it made her very very condescending, especially to someone whose position she basically overthrow. She also showed off her powers by performing a massive teleportation spell which according to Yidhra seems to be quite impossible without a large amount of magic power, still she pulled it off without breaking a sweat so we can kind of know how strong she is.

I’m sure in time she will change her demeanor and join the team, But for the moment she will stay as the sassy blonde gal. I assume she won’t be too surprised with Red’s abilities since she seems to have knowledge of them. But as the protagonist from another world, I’m sure red will manage to impress her somehow. And I’m also interested to see the backstory of Kizuna Silver to be animated on screen.
