Aquarion MoE Ep 8 Review: Towards Uncertainty

Okay, so…uh…what to say? The newest episode of Aquarion Myth of Emotion dropped some insane mysterious lore on us regarding Sun and some crazy conspiracy lore as well. Furthermore, we get to see some very crucial event of the Mythical Age. And as always, we still don’t know what is this series’ end game.

So it is revealed that Sun is somewhat of an artificial child – engineered to possess special ability – the ability to awaken to quantum entanglement of mana. Sun was created from the holy egg in a lab. That egg is probably connected to other worlds and contain this world’s mana. As a “child” created from the egg, Sun has the ability to help others awaken to their mana, to become necessary assets to the World Awakening Council. However, Sun was also experimented on harshly by other adults, so some people took him and ran away. They are the Space Egg Association – the organization mentioned in the synopsis of the series. So now we get two opposing human factions: the World Awakening Council and the Space Egg dudes. However, the Space Egg Assoc doesn’t seem to be under pursuit as they seem to be living relatively normal lives. It can also be deduced that the World Awakening Council doesn’t care as long as Sun can help others awakened. Therefore helping them select the people that will board the Hakobune – a giant space ship that might be their vehicle to “reach” the new world, and the rest of humanity might be left for dead.

This is some Promare exodus shit that feels super complicated on top of already existing plot. So it seems that the world’s residents can be awakened and contribute their mana to the world, and somehow bring about a new era o something? And San is the chosen child of destiny that can get people to awaken? The 3 keywords: Space, Union, Annihilation – might be referring to when the worlds (space) are united, annihilation will happen. Or it could also be referring to the Mechanical Angel: Aquarion. We’ll see what happens in the end.

Hana got some good characterization this episode with le conspiracy dude. Well, it seems like that dude isn’t entirely crazy after all, since his words is slowly becoming clearer and truer every passing episode. I think it is quite easy to see that there has always been something true about his words from the start. But she’s the only one has “stopped” fighting amongst all the Elements and began to question what’s actually going on. She’s definitely been one of the more interesting Element in the series. The psychotic outbursts that she got from before has completely subsided now, giving her more depth as a character after bonding with le conspiracy dude. I reckon she might play a bigger role in the future.

And now we get to the Mythical age stuff. Sedona’s wings were ripped away, as does her sister – Haida and their father. Maybe they committed some sort of transgression against the goddess and Nanook was forced to pass judgement onto them – well, more like the other old dude. Nanook obviously looks frustrated as hell, but since he is a “coward”, he didn’t really speak up or stand up for her in the moment. However, this might be the catalyst for him to do something later on. We know that Sukuna created the Aquarion, so it might be Nanook that took it and went berserk, resulting in the current affairs.
We got another battle this episode, and of course they gotta plant another stake since the “talking” Mythical Beast is still catching them off guard. I reckon we will get a revelation on what they actually are in the next 1 or 2 episode. Once again, the series feels like they are expositing a lot, while not making sense at the same time. There’s a lot of things to piece together and they are structured really poorly. The action is brief and short, unlike the previous series. Furthermore, the new characters introduced in this episode looks absolutely horrendous. I don’t know why they keep coming up with these off-looking designs.

At this point, Aquarion is over 2/3rd of the way, and things are (in a way) slowly coming together. But the story doesn’t have any impact since the characters do not have any impact on us. Their relationships are weird, non-conventional and not in a good way. The previous Aquarion was silly too, but they actually have some relatable aspects. For this one, every character feels like cardboard and are from another world entirely. Not sure how this will play out.
