Mecha-Ude Ep 9 Review: Absolutely Ude-licious!
We’re heading straight into the boss battle already? An intense clash with Ordela break out this episode, and we’re treated to one of the most badass combat this year. And what do you mean this isn’t even the end and that even more Mecha-Ude awesomeness still awaits? Yes, the series is saying this incredible boss battle isn’t where they are stopping, and in addition, we get a brand new MVP this episode.

The Ordela has grown out of control, and basically became a turret in the middle of the city. Anything that approaches it will be shot down with laser beams. Hikaru and ARMS are working to surround and try to seal it with Alma. This reminds me of Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden during the Macross city’s assault or during Promare where the Lio de Galon assault the Prometheus. Hikaru jumping around and punching his way through is pretty badass. And we see some of Kagami Group’s lackey are now joining to fight against the Ordela as well, which is always nice to see. There’s multiple aspect to the assault, we got the intelligent team, we got the long range snipe support, and then we get the assault bruiser – Hikaru, and none other than the clutch play of the match: Jun.
Jun jumping in was pretty predictable, although I didn’t expect him to jump in that soon. His Ouroboros has evolved into the Asclepius, with the crucial ability to control and disrupt the flow of Arbitrium. Basically if he get his hands onto Ordela, he can pretty much nullify its defense, allowing Hikaru and Alma to deal the finishing blow. The two young boys charging ahead with Jun showing off some pretty sick moves is kinda amazing. Although one thing I really wanted them to do was play some Sawano beat-drop during the scene, but instead we get a pretty instrumental BGM instead. It’s not bad, but would be much cooler with a signature Sawano drop.

And then Jun finally pulled it off. He was able to disrupt Ordela, leaving it wide open for Hikaru’s finisher. And oh boi what a finisher that was! Hikaru pull off a Giga Fist Breaker moment with Alma growing to humongous size. It looks like he’s dropping a freaking flaming colony onto ordela lol. It’s probably bigger than any fist Luffy has formed ever. And of course, the blow was critical. Hikaru and Alma brought down the hammer upon Ordela, completely crushing it. And that was an epic boss battle at the start of the epiosde. Yes, it all happened before the first half of the episode even concluded. What a statement from the staff that there’s still more amazing stuff to come.
After the badass and jazzy action, we get to some plot development. And jesus christ this is some insane plot twist that I actually didn’t see coming. The “supposed” villain – Jun’s brother – Naohito and his “close henchmen” – Tohdoh – turned out to be good guys all along! Naohito just wanted to protect his brother, cure his illness as well as liberate the Kagami Group from the controlling reins of none other than Amaryllis – the Mecha-Ude with the ability to control human. I actually thought she was gone after the last fight, but it seems she made her way back somehow and latched herself onto Naohito again. Naohito’s plan reveal was really crazy, and turned everything on its head. That’s also when the premonition of the actual “villain” appeared – when Aljis – head of ARMS – appear behind Hikaru with an ominous feel…

Jun freed his brother, and they reconciled. Tohdoh is a pretty cool bro when he agreed to go along with Naohito’s crazy plan, but it seems he’s also a softie and a funny guy at heart. This episode really put the highlight on Jun as he proved to everyone that he is more capable than anyone. Tohdoh has always believed in him, and he proved to be right. While subtle, but the bond between Tohdoh and Jun is pretty cool. I guess with Naohito being possessed, Tohdoh played the role of big brother to Jun. Well, anyway, here comes the reveal…
Aljis removed his mask, revealing him to be…Yakumo – the supposedly dead head of the Kagami Group many generations ago. And it seems his goal is to take back Alma after he has awakened to his full power. Maybe he didn’t actually died back when he fought Ordela – but his black pupils might suggest he’s not fully himself anymore. I reckon Fist has something to do with it. But now with Ordela brought down and the Kagami Group in turmoil, Aljis revealed to be the true “mastermind” all along. Which means he has been using ARMS for generations to do his biddings.
