Red Sentai Isekai Ep 3 Review: The Princess and The Knight

We’re speed-running through the recruiting process for the Isekai Sentai here. As 2 more members join the “party” of Kizuna Red, we can see someone who don’t react the same way Yidhra does when they are faced with Sentai shenanigans. A hilarious and action-packed meeting between the pairs of boy-n-girl duo.

The episode started with Tougo coming to live at Yidhra’s house, and that sent Poseidon into a raging frenzy. He’s definitely over-protective of Yidhra and fears that if man and woman stay too close to each other, a spark might turn into a blaze. And so he decided to do the reasonable thing: cut off Red’s manhood. I mean…your mistress of the house is essentially wearing a bikini top with gigantic assets! Whose fault do you think it is, sir butler? XD Also I find it funny that Red still can’t remember his name despite it being the literally GOD of the sea in the human world where he came from.

Then come our guests – and newest members of the party: princess Teltina and her knight, Lowji Mist. Well, it is the trope of all tropes for an Isekai series to have a petite princess adventuring with a “ethically quesionable” knight. The princess is super curious about Red and his power while Lowji is adamant about not having anything to do with him. And of course, that resulted in a duel between the two to settle the matter. And it’s refreshing to see someone who aren’t fazed by Red’s “background explosion”. Well, I guess if you overplay a trope too many times, it’ll get stale. In return, we get to see more Super Sentai trope-breaker today.

Well, adults who are Super Sentai fans have been asking “Why not just use the Zords to squish the enemy when the battle start?” – and so we have this episode to “explain” how that might go against a strong enemy. Red summoned his Kizuna Beasts and combined into Maximum Kizuna Kaiser – which, understandably – baffled Lowji and the Princess. Since they are used to golems and summons, the Kizuna Beasts are nothing too crazy – but they have never seen a Combiner before. But as a royal knight, Lowji is very composed and was able to fight the Kizuna Kaiser with great advantage. Since he is small, and the Kizuna Kaiser’s movement is very clunky and slow, Red wasn’t able to hit him and basically became a giant sandbag for him to hit. Yidhra did raised a valid concern: this thing is kinda useless if not used against enemies of similar size. Well I guess that’s true for most Super Sentai robots, but a few other mechas might want to debate that point, such as the Aerial Rebuild, or Slaughter Dagger, or the GM Man-Hunter, to name a few. In the end, Red managed to clinch it by abusing his giant sword to AoE’d Lowji and KO’d him.

And thus, the four formed a party, much to the reluctance of Lowji. When Yidhra and Lowji synchronized their inner thoughts, it was pretty funny. They both agree that Red needs to be kept in check, and they’ll do it.

The party came to a town to investigate some mysterious incidents about the Mana Seed – which can grant its user vast magical prowess, but will also corrupt them at the same time. They met and fought with the Lord of the Town where we witness the first “broken henshin” from Red. He took too much damage and his armor was cancelled. This is a common occurrence in Toku, but mostly in later stages since the suit is pretty tough, but it also goes to show that Red isn’t the ultra-OP character we’ve seen in many other Isekais. And that he made it this far in this world thanks to using his power correctly and efficiently.

I find it pretty funny that the Princess and Lowji is pretty casual with each other. The Princess isn’t shy of ordering him around, and he is also brazen enough to “defy” some of her orders, and admitting some petty feelings towards Red. Their relationship is quite casual – unlike the strict and monotone master-servant relationships in most medieval settings. Can’t wait for them to pose along with Red when they became his bond-mates.
