Shinkalion Change the World Ep 28: Here Comes The Doctor!

After a special episode break, we’re back again into the thick of the action. The truth about Reiji revealed to the Drivers, and that of course plague everyone with different feelings. But doom-and-gloom isn’t everything in this episode, we also get some pretty great news: a new Shinkalion has been completed. And per the usual Shinkalion tradition, after all the numbers are introduced, it’s time for the house call from none other than Doctor Yellow.

After encountering Reiji, Ina and Kacchan revealed his identity and backstory to the team. It definitely came as a shock to everyone, especially Ryota – since Reiji was the person that saved him when he was a kid. The fact that Ryota idolized the Shinkalion 0 driver and wanted to protect everyone thanks to him, finding out that Reiji’s goal was to “become a cool person”, but then he became corrupted and sided with the Unknown, must have been a devastating blow to him. I really hope we get to see these two go head-to-head and clash with their ideology.

Ina also noted that it seems like Reiji isn’t being mind-controlled like she was. Although I find it hard to believe since Ina also acted like she knew what she was doing when she was brainwashed, and there’s no concrete proof that Reiji is doing so willingly just yet. But we’ll get the truth later on. For me, I think if Reiji isn’t being brainwashed, he’s trying to accomplished something that can only be done on the other side. The Commander guy recalling his last time seeing Reiji is also sus as hell. I wonder what really happened that night.

That aside, we get some more positive mood happening in this episode. We get a full ensemble of Shinkalion Drivers this time – when everyone gather in the Metaverse (a convenient way to bypass geographical issue). We get some pretty funny interaction with Yamato giving every nicknames. He’s also courting death by calling Ina an oba-san. It’s all fun and games until she put a detonation button in your Shinka, Yamato! But of course, the main focus is the reveal of the Dr. Yellow Shinkalion – which is ready for deployment. The Dr. Yellow has always been a great “wall” to protect and support the Shinkalion team with its incredible endurance and AoE protection. From the toy teasers, it seems this Shinkalion is a double-combine Shinka, kinda similar to the SRG but with only 2 units.

And we also get the reveal of its intended pilot: none other than Delta/Morito. Kinda makes sense since he is featured quite a lot in the series even though he’s a side character. And his interaction with Ina means she knows about him. However, I was quite surprised when he refused to become a driver, because he want to focus on the Metaverse. I think it make sense and the team is very understanding in not forcing him and stuff. But I’m sure in the next episode, the Unknown will compromise Ido somehow and threaten Morito’s closest friend. We know that the Dr. Yellow is a dual unit, it’s a perfect match for Morito and Ido to become a very good combo. While this episode ended with Morito refusing the position and even had an argument with the team, we know he’ll join the team when the time comes.

This episode doesn’t have much action, basically establishing the setup for the next episode and the debut of the Dr. yellow in the future, as well as catching up the team on Reiji’s situation. Let’s see how long they will keep Reiji as the “boss” this time. Since we know there are even darker forces behind him.
