Anime Review: Toujima Tanzaburou Wants To Be A Kamen Rider Ep 2 – Tacklin’ 2 (Huge) Issues!
Wow, this episode is basically 2 fetishes rolled into one. We got the very common theme of a student falling in love with a gorgeous teacher, and also a fan falling in love with a cosplayer. What a dilemma! When Yuriko asked “Do you still like me even if I do things like this?”, I’m sure many fans were screaming “Yes please! I’m into that shit!” out loud. Even so, this episode is a great introduction for our heroine: the Denpa Ningen Tackle! Also, we get to see the opening animation and the OP “Wanna be” by Teddyloid was amazing as well!
This episode is basically a more parodied version of that Miru Tights episode where a student boy was obsessed with his teacher. Even if Yuriko act like a goofball sometimes, her beauty and demeanor while teaching is enough to capture our resident daydreamer Asano. I don’t think his love will bear fruit, not for a loooong time anyway. But it’s still fun to see him getting caught up in Yuriko’s antic later.
Yuriko’s backstory on her obsession with Tackle is actually quite emotional and heartwarming – and also reflect a lot of fanboys and fangirls in real life as well. We got introduced to our favorite thing by someone else, and became absolutely infatuated with it. Furthermore, when our favorite character dies, we were also devastated. Some even cried. But what gets me is that Yuriko’s dad seems to literally be Kamen Rider Stronger himself in the past – since he even appeared in the in-universe Toku show. That made me wonder who Yuriko’s mom is. Since this is a world where Shocker literally exist, then that means the Riders could also…? Still, they managed to capture her determination very well, and young Yuriko was super cute.

I like how they create a great contrast on how Yuriko acts in public and how she train. She was superrrr intense when training but in daily life she was very reserved and gentle. The sound effects added when Asano was day-dreaming about was hilariously creepy lol. And the intense sound effect and absurd jiggle physics while she don the Tackle suit is so comically menacing lmao.
Her dedication to the persona is also very different lol. Not just a mask but she literally just strip on the street down to her underwear and change to her suit. Asano got a close-up look at her which is kinda insane. And yep, she asked him if he would still like her after seeing her like this. Can we get a “Hell yeah!” for our brother? Ain’t no-one is going to turn her down after witnessing such peak. Her combat was absolutely fire as well. Seeing her bench sooo much previously, it is easy to imagine her throwing a 80-90kg dude to the ground. It’s also funny when the fake Shocker dudes just…left after the first guy got shot down. Yuriko also just…left without doing anything to the other 3 dudes. And the not-Kiryu guy was also very nonchalant about the whole thing that it seems like everything’s just a game to them. Oh yeah and the police were useless of course.

Then we get an early ending song and an epic epilogue for the next episode. The fake Shocker has now witnessed the real deal! Yes, Shocker has shown itself in this world. An authentic “YEEEEEE!!!” ring through the store, and our heroes now have to face the Shocker combatants – which, make no mistake – possesses actual superhuman strength! They will prove more than a match for our wanna-be Kamen Heroes!
