To Be Hero X Ep 24 Review: It All Comes To X

After 6 months, we have finally come to this point – the final episode of To Be Hero X. And of course, at the end of this season, the focus is on none other than X – the mysterious hero that noone knows who he is, or how the hell did he beat everyone just in a blink of an eye. And so, in this episode, we’ll see it all.

This episode masterfully weaved Ahu into X – because he only had one episode to his name, as well as being the only one who saw X’s true identity and interacted with him at lengths (aside from Smile, of course). The episode takes place right before the Hero Tournament, and X has already won 3 years in a row, so noone want him to win another, including both the agencies as well as the Hero Commission. So, they sent their assassins to kill him. Of course, they couldn’t send the high profile top 10 heroes, even though I think E-Soul would be jumping at the chance. But nope, they just sent the Commission’s grunts and some 2nd-rate “heroes” to take out X.

But of course, mr. X effortlessly snap his fingers a few times and basically toy with the entire group all the way throughout. I find it kinda funny that they add a hero duo akin to the 2 harp players in Kungfu Hustle. This episode is also a directing masterpiece. The crazy shots of X constantly bending time and space is insane, the mix between 2D and 3D as well as the colors and camera angle makes this feel like a fusion of Inception and the Matrix (the good ones anyway). I find it hilarious that Rock even sent an E-Soul rip-off after X. But of course, even amidst a giant one-versus-all, X never even broke a sweat or let out a sigh and just keeps snapping, all the while dodging and evading attacks from all directions with absolute swagger. This guy makes it look ridiculously easy.

Afterwards, he snapped himself and Ahu into Rock’s secret lair, and basically laid out the entire series’ lore and history, as well as setting up for the “last boss” – which is another incarnation of Zero. It’s really insane that the dude is just a salaryman by day and managed to find out everything from decades ago. It seems like his power allow him to grasp the truth of the world very easily. And his attitude of defying fate makes him all the more eager to do so.

Ahu really proves to be a good boy though. He stood alongside X even though he told the FOMO CEO that he’d kill him. I think the initial plan was just to give him a bite and then possibly rabies or something, lol. But shortly after, Ahu realized the true level of human’s degeneracy and greed, and that the Hero Commission and the agencies are both in the same boat – in that they both want to control society, as well as heroes. The heroes is just a way for them to control society and keep both crime and punishment their business. With Ahu realizing this, he might side with X to fight back.

The final part of the episode is absolutely kino – with X attending the Hero Tournament…as his normal self. No white hair, no white suit, no unrelenting swagger – okay I lied about the last one. Dude made an entrance that definitely sent his real Trust Value through the roof! Even more surprising is that amongst the participant, we can see both Lin Ling and…Nice! Shang has resurrected Nice using Fear particles because his face look soulless and cracked. In this tournament, over half of them have beef with Nice – like Ahu, Ghostblade, Luo Li and Dragon Boy, so I expect him to get whooped at some point. But alas, I think X will once again win. Lin Ling is cool, but he ain’t X material just yet.

Furthermore, we also get a badass end credit scene. What we see might be the 2nd season’s preview of the anime – where the top 10 heroes fight against a common enemy – Zero. But this Zero is a…female? We also get to see X’s background about the time before he got his power and during. His power manifest out of nowhere and against his will, but it seems his friend has predicted it using tarot cards. There’s a lot to dissect from this video, from his previous friend seemingly becoming Zero, to a partner hero that X had, to the entire main cast fighting “together” against Zero’s forces – with even E-Soul, Queen, Dragon Boy, Ghostblade and Luo Li fighting together with others – which seems impossible. Let’s see what the series has in store for us in the future…
