Shinkalion Change the World Ep 25 Review: The Deerkalion Isn’t Just For Show!

Following the usual formula, after the debut of a Driver, there will be a follow-up episode to expand more on that character’s development. And this episode once again deliver on the otoko romance as well as the hilariousness of the Shika-lion. Oh and there’s a pretty big reveal at the end which signals the start of another big story arc.

Yamato once again prove that he’s a Minato Sakai clone. He’s super passionate about a robot contest, he also prefers hiding his worry behind a confidence facade, and he’s supported by friends who understand what his true passion is. I really like how he keeps channeling different mecha tropes but also being the comic relief for the show. It’s been a while since Shinkalion’s been this engaging and fun to watch. Along with Mecha-Ude this week, we have a lot of laughs to keep us going.

The enemy this week is another one of those “it’s not too threatening but it requires multiple Shinkalions to beat it”. One of the inevitable side-effect of having such a large cast of Driver is that aside from the spotlight Driver, everyone else basically just serve one small function during the fight. Even though Ten is a combat genius, and Taisei has the most experience and everyone else also isn’t shabby, they literally couldn’t do anything until Yamato arrive in the 500 Kodama. While the finishing move looks cool, the fighting in the series has become a bit lackluster and boring. Hopefully with “his” return next episode, we’ll get some more spicy ones.

And the the major reveal at the end. The Hades Shinkalion is back, and with it a familiar face…maybe too familiar for Ina and everyone at ERDA. Ina called out Reiji – the supposedly dead Driver of the Shinkalion 0 – specifically. We knew that the ERDA director want to “bury” Reiji and everything related to him in the past, but as they say, the past has a tendency to catch up to you. And ERDA’s karma has now arriving. It’s very obvious that Reiji is targeting ERDA with a goal to expose something, and we’ll learn more about it in the next episode.
