Mecha Profile: Ame-no-Murakumo – Kannazuki no Miko

When the Evil God Orochi rises, the God of Sword to smite darkness will also awaken. While the cost to awaken it is costly, its power is the only thing that can rival the Dark god. Whereas Orochi has his eight servants, the Ame-no-Murakumo has its two priestesses: the Solar and Lunar priestesses. The Sword God lays dormant on the Moon, waiting for the day it is summoned again to combat the Evil God.
I. Background:
–  The Ame-no-Murakumo is named after the Kusanagi no Tsurugi – the sword of the God Susanoo-no-Mikoto. Since the first days of Orochi’s reign, the Ame-no-Murakumo has been fighting the Orochi for several lifetimes. It is usually summoned by the Solar Priestess and Lunar Priestess to fight again an awakened Orochi.

– After defeating the Orochi and sealing it, the Ame-no-Murakumo returned to its shrine on the moon and fell into a deep slumber, waiting for the day the Orochi awaken again. At that time, the new Solar and Lunar Priestesses – who are reincarnations of the previous priestesses – will perform the unsealing rituals to awaken the God of Sword again.

– During the anime, Himeko and Chikane was doing the ritual to awaken it, but the Ame-no-Murakumo refused to awaken, and usually injure the priestesses during the ritual. Later on, it was revealed that Chikane was subconsciously not wanting the Ame-no-Murakumo to awaken because of the price to seal Orochi after the fight.

– Afterwards, Himeko managed to unleash the Ame-no-Murakumo on her own, and pilot it along with Souma – an Orochi’s Neck – to fight the Orochi. Afterwards, Himeko and Chikane pilot it together to defeat the Orochi in their lifetime. However, they still must pay the price to seal the Evil God afterwards. The price is to sacrifice one of the priestesses and trap herself on the Moon shrine to keep Orochi locked up. In the previous lifetime, it was the Solar Priestess that was killed by the Lunar, so in this lifetime, Chikane insisted to be the one to sacrifice because she loves her. Chikane was then locked up on a shrine on the Moon along with the Ame-no-Murakumo to keep Orochi asleep, waiting for their next reincarnation to fight again.

II. Skills & Abilities:
– The Ame-no-Murakumo (based on Ame-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi, lit “Heavenly Sword of Gathering Clouds”) is a Super Robot that represent the force of good to oppose the Evil God Orochi. It is a mostly white mech with purple and golden shoulder. The Ame-no-Murakumo usually stay in its Sword Form for transport – and transform into robot mode when in combat.

– The Ame-no-Murakumo’s power is immense – comparable to that of a fully awakened Orochi. Its sole purpose is to seek out and destroy Orochi whenever it is awakened. As the God of Sword, the Ame-no-Murakumo is covered in swords – and it can deploy swords all over its body as well. It most often uses the swords hidden on its forearms as well as the thin blade on its head. It can also deploy its shin guard to deliver a blade kick to its enemy – separating them into two.

– The Ame-no-Murakumo is also extremely durable, and seems to only take damage from Orochi himself. The Orochi Necks’ mechs were attacking the Ame-no-Murakumo with everything they had, but didn’t manage to scratch the Sword God.

– Despite being covered with swords, the Ame-no-Murakumo also possesses ranged attack. It can fire beams of golden light from its shoulders and head to deliver purifying strikes.

– The Ame-no-Murakumo can increases its speed by focusing energy into its 4 back attachments, creating a golden pair of wings to help it achieve astonishing speed for a charge attack.

– When fully powered with the Priestesses’ power, the Ame-no-Murakumo can be shrouded in a golden aura, which increases its power significantly to deliver the final strike Orochi. For its strongest attack, golden light spew forth from its left shoulder while blue light spew from its right to signify the power of the Sun and Moon. And then three giant swords of light appear on its head and two shoulders to cut down Orochi.
