Aquarion MoE Ep 10 & 11 Review: World's End

Aquarion Myth of Emotion nears its end, with only 1 episode left. In ep 10 and 11 we get an extensive lore dump and basically rush through the story with very little to no time to take them all in. I guess it’s because they still have a lot to go through – which is why we also start getting longer and longer flashback to the Mythical era, but that also comes as a cost of the mecha action.

Regarding the tale of 12,000 years ago, we get the full picture now. The goddess Mulua Satene had…uh…intercourse with the Moon Priest, and then she “birthed” an heir – Sedona herself. The Moon Priest brought back the child of the goddess and raise her as his daughter. When she grows up and gain enough power, she was chosen to be the next goddess – to be the vessel for her mana I guess. But the Sun Priest intervened – saying that the reason for the mana pollution was the Moon Priest himself – because he defiled the goddess with his acts 20 years ago. And in a twist of tragedy, Haida accidentally “intentionally” discolor Sedona’s wings – because she doesn’t want Sedona to go away and part from Nanook. Haida was thinking about their happiness, but Sukuna must have conspired with his father to “time” this accusation. Of course Sedona’s wings weren’t polluted, it was just dyed. But due to the Sun Priest insistent, everyone thought that she was “corrupted”. This might be the breaking point for Nanook to defy everyone – including the Goddess – to protect Sedona. They must have sealed their emotions into that amulet in the Mythical world so that their descendants can continue their fight and inherit their emotions.

Now, the problem of the 2 children that came from “our world” is still currently unexplained, which I don’t think they will with only 1 episode left. And Sukuna basically being the “villain” in the past world and the current world is certainly fitting his “Crime” association in the OP, but we don’t know if he will suffer any consequences. It doesn’t seem he did in the Mythical Age, and in the present world, Toshi is just being a cringey edgelord that will fail sooner or later. This is a pretty unique point for MoE but I’m not sure if it’s a good one. They are basically pulling a half-Sirius where one of the Element is going against the protagonist because “plot”.

Speaking of going against the protagonist, the series is pulling a subversion where they turned DEAVA into an evil AI. DEAVA is basically planning to wipe out the other world and take all their emotion/mana(?) to feed the new “Holy Egg”. I’m still not sure what the end goal here for them is. Maybe they’re trying to revive the goddess as awakened human so she’ll bless them or something? This seems to be a cycle that has repeated before so… And it’s obvious that Sakko and Rimiya and Hana is looking to break this cycle and thwart the plan of the World Awakening Council by preventing Sun-kun to awaken everyone.

Not to mention there’s this new plot with Momohime and Hana. Where in episode 10, they were informed that Momohime has died, but in ep 11, she’s still alive and the only one who “knows” of it is Hana, Sakko, Rimiya and Sun-kun. Probably the World Awakening Council and the teachers as well since they got it off from DEAVA. DEAVA has predicted that Momohime’s death in battle will secure their side’s victory. And Sakko is also on his way to prevent that with the original Aquarion.

We got the reveal that Kyouko-sensei – the female teacher that has been guiding them, is in fact a member of the Space Association and they wanted to stop the World Council. The reveal supposedly is meant to be a big twist since this is one of those “oh damn an unexpected heel-face turn”, but it fell flat because ALL of the teachers are flat as hell and doesn’t have any characters to them aside from exposition, especially the gym teacher. I expected them to play different support roles but all they did is just…standing around spouting things. They aren’t even doing any work on the Aquarion and not even teaching the student. They just do simulation a few times and that’s it. To say they are shallow is an understatement.

Well, we’re basically at the end now, and with the universe’s corrective ability at work, Momohime will die for real soon…if Sakko, Rimiya and Hana don’t succeed. We will also witness the ending to the Mythical era probably that will connect to Sakko being able to break the cycle. Since Momohime said that the other world isn’t actually trying to delete ours, they are just trying to “show their love”, the team might be able to “warp” the definition of love in this case into “true love” as depicted in other Aquarions and save the day.

One of the other issue with MoE is that they are cutting down on the mecha action a lot. During the entire series, there are very few of the signature “Hissatsu” that Aquarion is known for. Even for Logos, we have at least 1 per episode until the final arc. The length of the series also affect this aspect a lot. From the start, we get 3 Siegel attacks, 1 for Tir and 1 for Feoh if I remember correctly. None of them are really memorable except for the first Mugen Punch because it is, well, a Mugen Punch. At this rate, they’ll have to spam at least 3 Hissatsus in the final episode – 1 for each forms.
