Shinkalion Change the World Ep 19 Review: Fireworks Festival

Well after that intense arc, we got 2 weeks of relaxing episode: a recap and a festival one. This episode 19 introduces us to a new character that might be relevant later – and he is not a Shinkalion Driver – or at least not yet. With a name like Delta, there could be a plot twist somewhere down the line.

This episode continues to highlight the similarities between Taisei and our og train fanatic Hayato. Their reactions when seeing a cool piece of locomotive is almost identical. Even Vina found herself flabbergasted when she heard Hayato’s Metaverse handle.

Nevertheless, we’re introduced to the train fanclub on the Metaverse, with a member named Delta who quickly became acquainted with Taisei. Well he’s a friendly Ikemen that seems to share Taisei’s love for trains as well as having an ambitious hidden side. Call me paranoid but I will not be surprised when the revelation came that he is actually…the Masked Man. His hairstyle also covers one-side of his face entirely, giving him a half-open half-mysterious vibe.

Taisei’s social life aside, we also get to see more relationship development for the other members of the team. I particularly love Ryota and Mai. Although I think it’s high time he ditch that weird signature laugh lol. I don’t think that’s gonna happen but eh. Ryota and Mai have been childhood friend for so long and with Mai’s straightforward personality and Ryota’s reservedness, it might be difficult for him to realize and confess. And I’m happy that he’s beginning to notice her more. Well, festival is a ripe opportunity to boost the feminism of a character and Mai is very cute here.

We also see a bit more of the Vice President of the Student Council. She’s pretty cute and is a perfect match for Ganma. Although she is fully supportive of him, Ganma still hasn’t told her about the Shinkalion thing. Which may or may not be a subplot in the future.

We also got a fight this episode, but mostly just superficial since the team easily dispatched the Unknowns. Either I’m reading too much into this or this is truly just a chillax episode where Taisei made a new friend who also likes trains, and we get a few bits to fill in some plot points to explain why the Hades won’t be reappearing – at least not in the next few episodes. And the next one, we’re treated to a boat Shinkalion as well as some very beautiful onee-sans 😉
