Gundam GQuuuuuuX Ep 9 Review: Gundam is what now?
Forget everything you think you know, for in this episode, Khara took us on a ride across time and space, as well as…timelines. Yes, Gundam GQuuuuuuX has gone multiverse…and in the most unexpected way you can think of.
Journey beyond the time with a guide that we spent too little time in the original series – Lalah Sune. Or should I say…Lalah Sune(s)…
Journey beyond the time with a guide that we spent too little time in the original series – Lalah Sune. Or should I say…Lalah Sune(s)…

We start the episode with Machu’s Prison Break. Well, not really a prison break since Challia basically let her go. Challia is becoming more and more big-brained as the series go on. Dude has plans for everything, knows everything Machu is thinking, and everything that she does basically fit into the grand orchestration that Challia laid out – down to her descend location.
On a side note, many are upset that Machu basically didn’t pay any heed to the worry of her mother – choosing to not contacting her instead. Instead, her head is still filled with Shuji. I guess Machu is the true Gen-Z teenager where they do not give a damn about their parents if they don’t understand them. Instead, she heeds the words of a mysterious person that send her cryptic messages through her phones – which was closely monitored by Challia. We have *some* theory on who this person might be…further details below.

Now, she crash landed on Earth where the GQuuuuuuX sunk down to the ocean and she was ejected out of the Core Fighter. During the descend, it was pretty jarring when the Psycommu hands in the cockpit embrace Machu during the re-entry. It was both creepy and amazing that they can think of such things. But I guess with a bit of Eva’s blood flowing inside the series, these little “details” will be present nonetheless. Even so, this is far from the most bizarre thing this episode, so we will circle back to that later.
Afterwards, Machu was recovered to a mansion by none other than Lalah Sune. And if there’s one thing that didn’t change, it is her backstory in this episode. In the original 0079, Char Aznable found Lalah Sune in a brothel and rescued her since he sensed the Newtype potential in her. Of course, in this timeline, Char headed in an entirely different direction, so Lalah was still stuck at the Brothel, and even become its Mistress – probably the “most popular” one. This is also the first time we’re getting an actual in-depth look on a brothel in the U.C timeline. We’ve all known about Marida’s backstory and Lalah’s, along with more horrific occurence of less-than-savoury sexual activities, but this is the first time we actually saw it on-screen. Obviously there are no illicit scenes, but the gravure shots were telling enough. That in this world, there are still some lives that are screwed over by society, no matter who wins the war.

Now we come to the brain-exploding exposition. Machu found Lalah in the woods and had a talk with her. and Lalah dropped some insane lore for this world. It seems that in the Kira-Kira, Lalah was able to see herself in another timeline where Char came and rescued her, however, Amuro shot him down and killed him. And this “dream” seems to be a recurring thing that Char died by Amuro’s hands no matter what. Now she did mention a young boy – so it’s definitely not Sayla, and that she fell in love with both during the dream, so it’s consistent with the 0079 events. The only difference is that instead of Lalah dying, it’s Char. So this is 0079 but not really, essentially another Universal Century timeline where things played out similar to the original series, but still contain some critical differences.
This means that Lalah was able to “peer” into another timeline…unless this is an insane timeloop thing with the involvement of the Turn A. Which is kinda crazy since if it’s true, it means the same people and the same events were repeated many, many times. I think this is more of a Muv-Luv situation where there are multiverses out there that such events play out and this Lalah was somehow able to peer into those. And the reason she couldn’t look into the original 0079 timeline was because she took the shot for Char and died.
And if this phenomenon is related to the Kira-Kira and Zeknova, that means that the GQuuuuuuX’s Char must ALSO be alive somewhere…among the multiverse – which is where we come to the SECOND insane revelation.

Challia has been tracking the GQuuuuuuX all along, and the place where it fell…was exactly where an anomaly lay hidden underneath the water. The Zeon force quickly tracked it down and salvage from the deep a giant Mobile Armor…that shouldn’t exist in this era. The Elmeth – just like it was in 0079, with no GQuuuuuuuX’s design aesthetic whatsoever. Just pure unadulterated Kunio Okawara. Challia has regarded this as “something we didn’t make”, basically confirming that the Elmeth shouldn’t exist in this timeline because Zeon never finished it, and the Feddies definitely didn’t get their hands on it. So its existence is an “anomaly”. And from what Lalah said before, this “anomaly” might come from another timeline altogether.
Furthermore, deep within the cockpit of the Elmeth – a person was seen slumbering, as called by Challia, “frozen in time”. The Zeknova might have been a gateway for inter-dimensional travel where the Elmeth from another UC timeline was “transported” here with another Lalah inside! But make no mistake, this might not be the original 0079 Elmeth because there were no bullet hole and the Elmeth is still pretty much intact, which wasn’t the case in the original series. Also, the fact that 2 “Lalahs” exist at the same time basically means…well, anything goes now! The multiverse is real, and it’s here!
Now we comes to a million dollar question that everyone has been asking since the start of the series: Where the hell is Amuro? Well, my guess is that he was the “secret messenger” that have been sending messages to Machu, but he might not be…well, human here. The Zeknova – the phenomenon where Psycoframe went haywire – might do more than just transporting people to another dimension. It might merge a human’s consciousness with the Kira-Kira and give them abilities that is beyond human’s comprehension. I am fully expecting Tsurumaki and Khara to went with this. So either he is a supernatural force than is acting on some crazy multiversal will, or he is stuck in some machine like DOME – literally a server with Newtype abilities. With only 3 episodes left, the plot thickens and rushes at the same time! Next episode, Gihren finally appears…as does the GFreD’s first sortie!
