Grendizer U ep.7 review: Spazers GO!
Time really does fly, I feel like it was just yesterday when I first opened episode one of Grendizer U, but the show has already gone through 7 episodes. After 7 weeks, Grendizer’s upgrades, called Spazers, have finally been officially introduced. On top of that, some questions surrounding Hikaru are also explained.
First, I want to talk about the continuation of the plot in this episode. The detail of Professor Umon calling to inform Daisuke about the discovery of ancient relics felt kinda weird to me. The scene where Professor Umon feels surprised when he discovers the ruins is quite absurd for many reasons: both Duke and Kouji have come and seen this place, and Hikaru has appeared in the Photon laboratory, so Professor Umon should have already known about the ruins. A lot of things in this series happen off screen, although I know the anime doesn’t need to put everything on screen, but there are things they should make clear to avoid confusing viewers while they follow the plot.
In this episode we learn more about Hikaru, and these things also raise many questions related to her. What I’m most interested in right now is Grendizer U‘s direction for Cassado. Will Fukuda turn him into a good person and bleach all his crimes? Or will Cassado have to pay the price to atone for his crimes? If so, what will its price be?
The fight scene in episode 7 was surprisingly good. The battle between Grendizer and King Banibani is animated very smoothly and dynamically. Using shock waves/vibrations amplified by water to kill the pilot is a genius idea, showing viewers Zuril’s intelligence and strategy. The design of the monster King Banibani is also very beautiful and complex, even though it does not have the giant round body of the original Banibani. And we can’t help but mention that Grendizer’s very heroic background music composed by Kohei Tanaka made the Grendizer’s triumphant scene.
Overall this was an okay episode, pushing the story forward and delivering a good fight scene. I hope that the mysteries behind Hikaru will be clearly explained in the coming episodes.
