Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture ep 3 Review: Preparation and Unexpectation
So we come to the final episode of Act 1, I’m quite surprised because this is a break episode to prepare for the next act. However, cannot said that this episode isn’t a boring episode, on the contrary, it also tells us more about the film’s background situation and the time Ash and Sakuya go together as Nameless Mercenaries as well as a few fan-service scenes from Sakuya hehe.

The character I want to mention first in this episode is Natalia – the only daughter of the Luxembourg family. Used to be the assistant of Sakuya’s mother – Princess Sherry, and was also the person who hid Sakuya 4 years ago when Sakuya and Sakura escaped pursuit from Neo Britannian forces. She plays a key role as Sakuya’s supporter from within the Neo Britannian Empire and is also a close friend whom Sakuya can trust. However, I suspect this character is a double-faced character. Maybe she was the one who sold out Sakuya and Japan 4 years ago and killed Callis al Britannia. That would be pretty outrageous, but it is in line with what Code Geass has been doing.
Coming to Nameless Mercenaries, we continue to learn more about Ash’s personality in this episode. In this episode, he made me feel a lot like a closet nerd, only good at doing his own thing and not knowing how to talk to girls and drink 10 cups of coffee (Lol, what a madman). He probably would have been politely rejected if it weren’t for Sakuya. But thanks to this part, we know that Ash forgot he had never met Sakuya and did not recognize her even though he had seen Sakura, and the second thing I am quite sure of is whether Sakuya as Roze was with Ash. Up to 2 years, because the interaction between “Roze” and Ash doesn’t seem to be as much as normal siblings as well as her plans and the way she uses Geass is somewhat amateurish. That’s why the reputation of Nameless Mercenaries rose quite quickly enough for the Seven Shining Stars to hire them. Sakuya and Ash are really a dynamic duo.

We finally got to see Norland’s “Knights” of Neo-Britannia. And, well, they are a diverse bunch. Each one has his/her own quirk, and for this episode, we got introduced more to Catherine – the stylish gyaru pilot we saw in the previous episode. Well, despite being voiced by Nao Touyama, she’s not gentle at all. On the contrary, she is very outspoken and doesn’t act reserved even in the presence of someone supposedly higher in the title. She is 50% walking fan service and 50% Norland’s loyal fangirl. But her characteristics are interesting enough for us to pay attention to (definitely not because of the chocolate). I really like that part where she pointed at “the princess” and roasted her right there and then.
Included in this episode is also a lot of small tidbits that you may find interesting. Firstly, what everyone was waiting for was the brief cameo of Lelouch – granting Sakuya her Geass with his iconic preaching voice. We’ll see more of him later, but this scene probably made cinema-goers shriek, especially females. The second is the Black Knights. Well, they explained the reason why they aren’t bombarding Hokkaido with all the KMFs and why known characters aren’t intervening. It’s kinda a pull, but hey, anything works. Next is some good Rebellion banter. Haruka – as we know, will get the Keisetsu – seems to be the one with the most focus on their side. She seems to be the “Kallen” of the series, so we’ll look forward to her rise as a KMF pilot.

The first act of Roze of the Recapture ended, a good rest episode to prepare for the next act. There is a Fan-service scene where Sakuya wakes up, and I guess many people will capture the screen and use it as a desktop wallpaper or the appearance of Natalia, a lady with breasts attacking her defensive butt, or even Catherine in the scene. She talked to Sakura. I feel is quite a pity here that Emperor Callis died too early, as if he was made to appear in less than half an episode, and then he was done playing. Let’s see what’s new in Act 2 of Roze of the Recapture, we’ve seen Zi-Artemis, Keisetsu and Sekka in this episode, let’s look forward to seeing how they will perform in the next episodes.
