Shinkalion Change the World Ep 22 Review: Limelight and Spotlight
And…we’re back to school. After the other firework festival episode and a journey to the sea, we went back to Taisei’s school for another festival – this time is the famous cultural festival where classes make stalls and compete for the title of SOP. And Akane and Ryota coming in clutch despite not getting in their Shinkalion this episode.
I did mentioned in my previous episode review that I think the supporting cast is getting a rushed development, while that is true, Shinkalion also does a good job of not forgetting anyone in the story. Maybe they have a quota sheet on how much screentime a supporting character is supposed to get after a certain amount of episodes. Either way, I welcome more inclusion of Shion since I think she’s quite an interesting character. And Ten is quite one-dimension but he’s cute and has a good dynamic with Vina (although I think she needs to tone down the shotacon-ess big time lol). Seeing them again as well as watching them fight is not bad although the highlight is still on Taisei this episode.
And Ganma staying true to his character and being a strict worrywart BUT also cares deeply about his friends. Every time he’s on-screen, you can feel assured that he’ll get things sorted as well as laugh at his excessive strictness. And of course, the combo duo did it again when Ganma found time before the battle to ask the vice president to come help Mai, clutching it for their class.
And Ganma staying true to his character and being a strict worrywart BUT also cares deeply about his friends. Every time he’s on-screen, you can feel assured that he’ll get things sorted as well as laugh at his excessive strictness. And of course, the combo duo did it again when Ganma found time before the battle to ask the vice president to come help Mai, clutching it for their class.
The fight is pretty nice, with Taisei using the Drill Form this episode. Although the funky Bruce Lee screams came out of nowhere lol. I thought that was more suitable for Ryota or Ten but eh. Although the Commander geezer of ERDA appeared again this episode just to remind us that he’s a bastard. Can’t wait to see him getting turned down several notches.
Now about Akane and Ryota. Ryota being a master chef was surprising and a nice characterization for the character. I can really imagine when Ryota and Mai become a couple, she’s the one that makes all the money while Ryota becomes the best househusband and raise their kids. Their dynamic and contrast in personalities really made those two fit like a puzzle.

Surprisingly, this one and the last ep also expanded on Delta. Mayyyyybe he’s not the masked man like we thought. But we haven’t seen him in a few episode and Delta suddenly appeared mayyyybe something *wink wink nudge nudge*. But I think at this stage the chances is very low. Delta just seems to be a normal guy but with very little friends due to his family circumstances. And Taisei really need a train friend to be enthusiastic with him about, well, train stuff.

An episode with a lot of Bansou Gattais >:P We take a break midseason to refocus the plot and pave the way forward to the next arc.
