Shinkalion Change the World Ep 20 Review: I’m Aboat To Make A Name For MySail Here!

Shinkalion has always been an expansive series, and it has the cast list to match! Change The World doesn’t lack behind when it continues to introduce us to another Driver – well…Sailor to be exact. Briefly after Ganma debuted a few episodes back, we get another addition to the team. This time it’s the Kyushu region driver – Tsukumo Umikaze (lit. cloud sea wind) – and he demonstrated that even though he’s new, he brings quite a wave.

Once the team arrive at the new branch, we got greeted by Tsukumo. And he’s a pretty energetci guy. The team hasn’t got anyone that can rival Ryota’s carefree and beaming energy. Akane is pretty calm and reserved, Ganma is the absolute opposite of Ryota (which I think might be why he’s not along for the fun), Ten is shy and Shion is gentle and ladylike. Meanwhile, Tsukumo is cheerful and quite expressive, able to match Ryota’s energy.

Furthermore, he seems to also be passionate about ferries and cranes and shipbuilding in general. Truly a seaside boy. You can tell by his dark skin that he is quite active and prefer to be in the sun. Seeing him being passionate about something really vibes with Taisei. Even though their interest aren’t perfectly aligned, a fanboy recognizes another fanboi. Furthermore, he’s also a doting brother – although he can be absent-minded sometimes lol.

And now we move to miss Ochiai for the main char dev of this episode. I really like it when operators and engineers etc…people aside from the drivers get their character arc. Miss Ochiai has some serious skills but she isn’t proactive in showing it. So coaching some newbie operators is a good way for her to break out of her shell. But to be fair, the newb operators are soooo bad at their job lol. I wonder how they managed to survive if an Unknown attack. But thankfully, their commander is a very, very beautiful woman (and also a bus fanatic) so they’re gucci XD.

It’s kinda funny that the Kyushu branch’s Command room is staffed entirely by women. And we didn’t even see any staff aside from the commander and her two operators. Usually, ERDA’s branch are staffed by a bunch of people – with entire teams of different departments so I’m not sure why this one is so different.

Eventually, Miss Ochiai displays total badassery when she finally took over the operating and show the girls how a professional work. She even took the initiative to pilot the carrier herself to bring the Vehicles to the driver. This is probably the first time we see a manned carrier. This goes to show how far Ms. Ochiai will go to support our Drivers. And that scene was amazing.

Now to the main fight. The N700S Kagome was pretty badass – just like other N700S. However, I don’t really like the design of the head, I’d have prefer a fin or two. CTW have been featuring a lot of finless Shinkas. While some looks fine, some looks lacking in details and I would really like to see some more attention to those. But what it lacks in aesthetic, the N700S made up for it in action. The Kagome is absolutely dominating after performing the Gattai. And the finisher is super badass. It reminds me of Hitman Reborn’s Yamamoto – a skilled swordsman with water-element power. When the Tsukumo slash up the waves and then cut through it, it was very cool. Doesn’t make sense why there’s water in the Capture Field, but eh rules of cool. And the dynamic finisher is just *moah* chef’s kiss.

We’ll still be in Kyushu for the next episode, with more N700S Kagome action. And this time we might see the Ferry mode in action. I hope we see more of Ms. Nakatani. She knows how to spur Ochiai into action, and inspire her staff through it as well. Also I have a soft spot for woman commander with glasses.
