Mecha Character Profile: Chikane Himemiya – Kannazuki no Miko

To combat the Evil God Orochi and his eight servants, the forces of good have the power of the Sword God Ame-no-Murakumo, but to awaken it requires two Priestesses with pure hears to be in unison. Chikane Himemiya is the reincarnated Lunar Priestess that was supposed to fulfill her duty to fight evil, but her foreknowledge of her tragic fate cast a shadow in her heart. But she will do anything to protect her love until the bitter end.
I. Background:
– Chikane Himemiya is a model student at the Ototachibana Academy. She is regarded as the top student at the school in both academic and popularity. Coming from a wealthy family, Chikane is smart, athletic, has a great figure which Himeko was conscious of, and has her own fan club as well. Chikane is also very friendly and social, but she never establish a close relationship with anyone, until she met Himeko Kurusugawa. The pair raises a lot of questions as many wonder why a perfect and prestigious girl like Chikane is best friend with a regular and somewhat reserved girl like Himeko.

– Chikane awakened to her destiny as the Lunar Priestess much sooner than Himeko, as she seems to have an idea of what has transpired when Orochi officially started his awakening. When the Necks awakened, she rushed to Himeko’s side to rescue her, but was powerless against the Neck’s mecha. Thankfully, Souma was able to resist Orochi’s influence and fought against the Necks instead. When Himeko was knocked out, Chikane found the mark of the Solar Priestess on her chest, and knew that a cruel fate await them. She kissed Himeko on the lips while wishing her a happy birthday.

– After Himeko learned about the Orochi legend and her duty as the Solar Priestess to awaken the Ame-no-Murakumo, Chikane and Himeko perform daily rituals to undo the seal on the Sword God, however, each ritual ended with the Ame-no-Murakumo resist the summoning and injure the Priestess, especially Himeko, which worried Chikane. Meanwhile, the Orochi Necks are launching assaults against the Priestesses as well, but thanks to Souma and his Take-no-Yamikazuchi, they were able to defeat the Necks every time. However, Chikane felt that she was powerless because she couldn’t do anything to protect Himeko and showed jealousy towards Souma because he has power and was getting closer to Himeko.

– One day, Himeko returned home to find the mansion she was living with Chikane devastated, and noone else was home. Himeko then found Chikane alone in the piano room, with an unusual dark aura over her. She proceeded to assault Himeko and then proclaimed that she will defect to Orochi’s side. Souma got there in time to protect Himeko but Chikane – having gained new power from Orochi – was able to fight him off. Souma got no choice but to call Take-no-Yamikazuchi to fight against Chikane, but somehow she was able take control of the mech and even converted it to its true Orochi form. Chikane and the Take-no-Yamikazuchi left the mansion, leaving Himeko and Souma devastated.

– Chikane then joined the Orochi Necks, however, she quickly turned on them and took them all out, including Souma’s brother – Tsubasa. In the end, Chikane was the only one left, absorbing everyone else’s power. To Himeko’s surprise, Chikane returned to the mansion, and acted like nothing happened. However, at the end of the day, she revealed that she will fully awaken Orochi, and challenge Himeko and Souma to come stop her.

– Himeko and Souma then boarded the Ame-no-Murakumo and headed to stop Orochi’s awaken. There, the Ame-no-Murakumo clashes violently with the Take-no-Yamikazuchi. Souma then allowed Himeko to speak directly with Chikane and they escaped to a pocket dimension of their own. There, Chikane revealed her actual plan – which was to harnessed all of Orochi’s power, and turned Himeko against her, so that she will awaken the Ame-no-Murakumo and defeat her, killing her and sealing Orochi in the process. Because she knew that their fate is to kill either one of them to seal Orochi – and that in the previous lives, it was Chikane’s predecessor that killed Himeko’s. This pained her greatly because Chikane love Himeko. So in this lifetime, she will play the villain and be the sacrifice to seal Orochi instead. In the end, the two understood each other and fought against Orochi together. However, in the end, one of them still have to sacrifice their lives. And with her current injuries, Chikane locked herself up in the Moon shrine, becoming the keystone to imprison Orochi until their next reincarnations.

II. Skills & Abilities:
–  Chikane is a beautiful girl, with very attractive appearance and a good figure – regarded so by both boys and girls alike. She has long, silky hair and good skin. Chikane’s family is very wealthy, which is why she was well-educated in etiquette and carries herself with elegance. She lives in a mansion filled with maids and workers to attend to her needs.

– Chikane is not only just looks, she is also very studious and talented. She ranks number one academically and athletically in the school – regarded as the Queen of the school with a large amount of fanboys and fangirls. Her specialty in sport is Kyuudo (archery). She can even hit a target far away with her bow and on horseback.

– She can ride horses efficiently, all while drawing her bow and shoot.

– As the Lunar Priestess, she awakens much earlier than Himeko, and Chikane remembered her past life while Himeko doesn’t. So she knows beforehand what would happen if they awaken the Ame-no-Murakumo and fight Orochi together. Her love for Himeko causes her to not want to awaken the Ame-no-Murakumo subconsciously, because it means one of them needs to die. Chikane would never lay her hands on Himeko, but she also doesn’t want to force Himeko to kill her either. So she pretended to join the Orochi so Himeko would hate her and found motivation to defeat her.

– With the Take-no-Yamikazuchi, she was able to defeat all 6 Orochi Necks in one battle. While having Orochi’s power, her arrows can turn others to stone, petrifying them. It also granted the Take-no-Yamikazuchi a new weapon: an energy bow, and it can destroy other Neck’s robots with ease.

– While in the Ame-no-Murakumo, Himeko and Chikane was able to channel both the Sun and Moon energy to hold Orochi in place, allowing Souma to finish him.
