Mecha Character Profile: Quess Paraya – Char’s Counterattack
With the expanding growth of Newtype people – those with telepathic powers in the Gundam Universal Century timeline, there are more memorable characters. Either in a good or bad way – Quess Paraya – a young beautiful talented girl then showed the adults how strong she is during her life in the Second Neo Zeon War.

I. Background:
– Born in the Universal Century of U.C. 0080 – during the War in Pocket event of the timeline, Quess Paraya was a Newtype since birth. Raised and grew up in a high-class family of Earth Federation’s Vice-Foreign Minister – Adenauer Paraya and his mistress – Katherine and lived in a mansion near Lhasa – Tibet, she always had a rebelliousness towards her family and directly associated with a group of other youths that her father disliked such as Christina whom taught her how to attain her Newtype powers.
– During the first day of Second Neo Zeon War, Quess was retrieved by the police, returning her to her father for the evacuation from the asteroid Fifth Luna that was on its course to crash on Earth. During her time on the shuttle she was then caught by Hathaway while the shuttle was on its route in space and caught itself in the middle of the battle between Londo Bell forces and the Neo Zeon, the shuttle then landed on Ra-Cailum class carrier for safety. Onboard the Ra-Cailum, she befriended Hathaway while encountering Amuro Ray – the top ace pilot and had a crush on him for his strong Newtype sense but as he did not care for her and already had a girlfriend – Chen Agi. Quess stuck with the two up until Ra-Cailum arrived at the space Colony Side 1’s Londenion city for Quess’s father’s mission for peace talks with Char Aznable – the leader of Neo Zeon. She defected to Char while he had a fight with Amuro after the meeting.
– Her interest in Char grew when he talked about how weak humans on Earth are. Although Char already had a girlfriend – Nanai, she didn’t care and began to be trained as a mobile suit pilot. At first she piloted a custom Jagd Doga mobile suit which she ended up using funnels to kill her own father during Neo Zeon’s fake disarmament process.
– She was then later assigned to pilot the powerful α Azieru mobile armor, unaware that Char only used her as an expendable unit, her immature minds began to become unstable due to the realities of the war. While Hathaway stole a Jegan unit to find Quess in the battle, she was fighting with Chan Agi’s Re-GZ Gundam and finally killed by her along with the destruction of α Azieru as she was intended to protect Hathaway. However, there are multiple endings aside the film version, for example in the novel version, Hathaway was actually the one who killed Quess or in the Gundam Evolve timeline, she actually survived and tried to find Hathaway.

II. Skills & Abilities:
– As a Newtype-born human, Quess Paraya has her abilities awakened during her defection to the Neo Zeon which proved to be even greater than the menacing Char Aznable. Although powerful, her drawback is that she is still immature and her mind became unstable after feeling the deaths during combat operations. This can be seen when she first used her Newtype powers to control the funnel weapons to kill actual enemies.
– Although powerful and a highly effective Newtype user. Quess is still young, her personality can be described as childish. She is very stubborn, selfish, emotionally sensitive and often rebellious. She doesn’t care if something she wants isn’t for her, she will still demand it. However she is somewhat intelligent, able to quickly learn things and also a naive child and as the age says, she is also love obsessed. She can quickly have a crush on someone – despite their age differences – with similar powers like her such as Amuro Ray or Char Aznable.
