Mecha Profile: Take-no-Yamikazuchi – Kannazuki no Miko
Super Robots are usually divided into factions – good and evil. Super robots who fight for good usually look heroic, with bright color and exude the aura of an indomitable fighter, while the evil robots are intimidating, often scary-looking with ominous aura. While there are cases where the evil robot change sides, it’s usually near the midway or the end of the series. But there are always exception to the rule when a mech is born out of evil, but chose to fight for good from the start. And that is none other than the fighting God of Darkness – the Take no Yamikazuchi – one of the 8 necks of the Evil God Orochi.

I. Background:
– Orochi (or Yamato-no-Orochi) was the 8-headed 8-tailed serpent god that terrorized Japan in ancient folklore. Opposing it is the god Ame no Murakumo – who sealed it away with the power of the Solar Priestess and Lunar Priestess. But the Evil God would rise again after its deep slumber when the Priestesses are reincarnated. On the first day of October (Kannazuki in Japanese, which means “Godless Month”), the Orochi would awaken, and with it the Eight Necks of Orochi – 8 superhuman who possesses the power to command giant robots to serve their master.
– Among them, the Seventh Neck is Souma Oogami – whose power is to call upon the Take-no-Yamikazuchi. However, Souma resisted Orochi’s evil influence and refused to join the other Necks to serve Orochi, and vowed to use Take-no-Yamikazuchi to fight against them to protect the Solar Priestess – Himeko Kurusugawa – whom he loves. The giant mech that was supposed to serve Orochi immediately turned into the protector of justice thanks to Souma’s incredible willpower.
– The Orochi necks attacked the Priestess many times, but each time Souma was able to fend them off with the Take-no-Yamikazuchi. When the First Neck – Tsubasa, who is also Souma’s brother – attacked with his robot, Souma almost lost. But thanks to his feelings for Himeko, he and the Take-no-Yamikazuchi managed to grasp victory in the last moment. During a fight against 3 other Necks at the same time, Souma managed to break free from Orochi’s influence thanks to Himeko being close by. The Take-no-Yamikazuchi glowed gold as it defeated the Orichi Necks with ease.
– However, Chikane Himemiya – the Moon Priestess was corrupted by Orochi and assaulted Himeko – the Sun Priestess. Souma tried to fight back but was unable to, and he was forced to summon the Take-no-Yamikazuchi. However, Chikane was able to ordered the Take-no-Yamikazuchi, and forced it to revert to the evil form it should have taken if it became Orochi’s servant. The original green and white mecha turned into red, revealing a mouth with sharp teeth and a much more sinister aura. Chikane then took it with her.
– Himeko managed to awaken the Ame no Murakumo and faced off against the evil Take-no-Mikazuchi – who has now morphed into a proper Orochi mech. Thankfully, Himeko managed to win over Chikane’s spirit, since Chikane’s true plan was to die under Himeko’s hands. The two Priestesses made up and broke free from Orochi. Souma then regained control of the Take-no-Mikazuchi, and it was upgraded with his brother’s – the Take-no-Yasukunazuchi – wings. Souma, along with his mech, delivered the final blow to Orochi with the Ame-no-Murakumo.

II. Skills & Abilities:
– The Take-no-Yamikazuchi (lit. Dark God of War) is the 7th Neck of Orochi. The mecha is humanoid with a dark green and pale cyan color-scheme, with yellow highlight on the head and chest. On each of its backhand are red gemstones, also on the head and chest. The proportion of the mech is bulky and obtuse, highlighting its weight, durability and strength.
– The Take-no-Yamikazuchi’s most basic attacks are just martial-arts, since its pilot – Souma Oogami – is also a martial artist. It is heavy and its punches are powerful. Despite its clunky looks, it can dash and jump quickly, catching opponents and unleash a flurry of attacks. Hidden on the fore-arms are two large green crystals that flip out when the Take-no-Yamikazuchi bring its fists together, it unleashes a ball of energy that can hold the enemy in place for a follow up attack. This skill is called “Sparkling Solar Wave of Great Destruction”. It usually follow-ups with a close-range punch to finish off the enemy.
– The shoulders of the Take-no-Mikazuchi can flip out sideways to shoot two energy disk to attack the enemy. It is one of the few long-range attacks that the mech has. It also possesses a sword that it can summon by focusing spiritual energy in both hands.
– The Take-no-Mikazuchi also has a power-up function – where its chest plate will move sideways apart and the chest will protrude out, revealing 2 more green gems and increase the performance of the robot significantly. Even allowing it to use the Shimmering Solar Flying Cannon Kick – which shoots an energy blast from its feet to attack the enemy. But that’s not the only power-up it has, when in the cockpit with Himeko, Souma can power-up even more thanks to the Solar Priestess’ blessing. The entire Take-no-Mikazuchi will glow golden, and it gains power far beyond its limits.
– After being stolen by Chikane, its entire body turn red, and the its mask was replaced with a mouth full of sharp teeth. In this form, its most usual attack is an energy bow and arrow since Chikane practices Kyuudo – archery. Her energy arrow is extremely powerful and can easily pierces other Orochi Neck’s mechas.
– After regaining control of the Take-no-Yamikazuchi from Chikane, Souma received the energy wings of the Take-no-Yasukunazuchi – the First Neck of Orochi.
