Mecha Profile: MRX-009 Pyscho Gundam

In the Universal Century era – Gundams are considered one of the most iconic limited-production mobile suits known to everyone. However there is also a Gundam that was too large to be identified as a mobile suit but rather – a mobile armor – which is the enormous Cyber Newtype-only Psycho Gundam.

I. History:
– The MRX-009 Psycho Gundam is a transformable mobile armor developed by Earth Federation Forces’s Murasame Research Lab – a lab that is notorious for its cruel experiments to create Cyber Newtype people – or known as artificial Newtype. Several of its features were derived from the Zeon’s Zeong mobile suit from One Year War since the Psycho Gundam was designed exclusively for Cyber Newtype. The reason its size was as massive as 40 meters was solely because of its enormous Psycommu system which at the time Earth Federation did not figure out how to reduce its size. The Psycho Gundam can also transform into a Mobile Fortress Mode which has the capability to hover mid-air even on Earth’s atmosphere thanks to its Minovsky Craft System – this idea of mobile fortress can be dated way back in One Year War when it was first drafted.

– The Psycho Gundam first saw action during the conflict between the Earth Federation-supported Titans and the Anti-Earth Union Group or AEUG for short, piloted by Murasame Research Lab’s adopted child – Four Murasame against AEUG’s Gundam Mk.II piloted by her love interest – Kamille Bidan with a promise that if she destroys the enemy of her faction, she will get her memories back which the fight ended in a draw where the Psycho Gundam was severely damaged because Four decided to help Kamille back in space instead but refused to defect with him. Later on when it was upgraded with psycho control chair along with heavily brainwashed Four, it fought with Kamille’s Zeta Gundam, however after Four discovered that Titans’s promise to return her memories was a lie, she fought back and sacrificed herself along with the destruction of Psycho Gundam by an attack from Jerid Messa – Titans’s ace pilot.

II. Technical Specs & Armaments:
– The Psycho Gundam is classified as a mobile armor due to its massive size, although large its maneuverability is somewhat good enough to traverse around without being too bulky. It can transform into a Mobile Fortress Mode where it kept its arms and legs inside the throne-like structure while hovering above the ground while its head was also covered, allowing it to hover around the battlefield thanks to its Minovsky Craft System and with anti-beam barrier installed, it truly became a mobile fortress with exceptional defensive capabilities.

– Its most notable piloting feature of the Psycho Gundam was its Psycommu system which is a system that scans the pilot’s brainwaves specifically for Newtypes whose their brainwaves are strong enough to withstand the machine’s complicated information, these brain waves were then translated into codes for controlling the machine which means the pilot with Newtype ability can control it by simply thinking and with the addition of Psycho-Control System in the Psycho Gundam, its pilot – Four was able to control it remotely as well.

– For its arsenal, the Psycho Gundam only has internal weapons installed with it such as the small Mega Cannon located on its V-shaped fin on its head and three Diffuse Mega Particle Cannon located on its abdomen, a single shot from one of them can easily destroy a mobile suit. One of its iconic features is its Beam Cannon on its 10 fingers which can be shot in any direction the fingers are pointing at.
