Mecha Profile: RX-79[G]Ez-8 Gundam Ez8
Gundam Ground Type is a very limited mobile suit that were deployed in small numbers during the One Year War in the Universal Century of U.C. 0079, when one is badly damaged it is almost impossible or rather unworthy to use the spare parts so instead of such, modifications from salvaged parts of other mobile suits was the decision instead which eventually made one of them reborn as the Ez8 Gundam
I. History:
– The Rx-79[G] Ez-8 Gundam is a heavily customized Gundam Ground Type that is specifically made for Shiro Amada – the MS 08th Team’s leader that often saw combat in the jungle environment of the Southeast Asian theater. During the battle with the Zeon’s prototype mobile armor – the Apsaras II, Shiro’s Gundam Ground Type was heavily damaged. With a very limited number of spare parts the Gundam Ground Type had, the engineers of the MS 08th Team had to find whatever they could to repair and rebuild it. Feedback and combat data from Shiro himself made the Gundam go through various modifications which eventually ended up as the Ez-8 Gundam which stands for “Extra-zero-8” or the 08th team extra unit, somehow it was able to retain its mobility and lighter with good overall durability probably because the lack luna titanium material. The name “Ez8” is a direct reference to a real life World War 2 M4A3E8 Sherman tank that had a nickname “Easy Eight” where it also received protection upgrades in a similar manner.
– The Ez8 Gundam first saw action in a parachute drop when Shiro and his team were on their way to locate the completed Apsaras III mobile armor. During the same mission, it made its combat debut against Norris Packard’s Gouf Custom in a city where it also scored its first major victory, although lost its left arm. The Ez8 Gundam then finally faced Apsaras III piloted by Ginias Sahalin in its heavily damaged condition, the complexity of the situation led Ez8 used up its final attack on the Apsaras’s cockpit before both falling into the volcano, destroying both of them in the process. However, both the pilot – Shiro Amada and his loved one from the Zeon side – Aina Sahalin survives.

II. Technical Specs & Armaments:
– With multiple changes over the original Gouf, the Gouf Custom is lighter, more mobility, better armed and better equipped. For instance, the Gouf Custom removed the 75 millimeter five finger machine guns which were deemed ineffective in combat and replaced it with a wrist mounted 3-barrel 35 millimeter machine gun as standard instead which helped increase its safety. In one case such as Norris Packard, the back of Gouf Custom can also install a flare launcher for signaling as well.
– For a ranged weapon, the Gouf Custom features a single 6-barrel 75-millimeter Gatling Gun with high rate of fire due to its cooling system and a synchronized shooting-reloading sequence which is mounted exclusively on its Gatling Shield. Fired by a hand trigger, it can also be ejected when its ammunition were depleted or that the pilot wanted more maneuverability. However, the ranged weapons are changeable as it can also be equipped a standard 120 millimeter Zaku machine gun or a 90 millimeter assault rifle as well as a 3-tube missile launcher on its forearm instead of the 3-barrel machine gun too depending on the pilot needs hence the name Custom.
– When it comes to melee, which is what the Gouf Custom is good at, it still has the iconic Heat Wire – a thick tentacle heat rod that can whip its target that the original Gouf also uses but with a replaced magnetic grappler mounted on a thin cable giving it more range. It can also release a high electrical charge to disable a mobile suit or even use it to hang around buildings, allowing it to perform some kind of surprise attacks if the pilots are skilled enough.
– Not only the Heat Wire – the Gouf Custom also comes with a Heat Sword Type DIII which has longer range over the Zaku’s Heat tomahawk and can cut through targets more than once compared to that, the sword is also stored inside the Gatling Shield. In some cases depending on the pilot – the Gouf Custom can also be equipped with Heat Knuckle on its right forearm for bashing attack with its three spikes on the knuckle plate or a Heat Mace which is a heavy blunt weapon.

Gundams are already a terrifying sight to see for regular pilots in their mass-produced mobile suits but what if a Gundam gets even larger, stronger and even transformable? The 40-meter Psycho Gundam strikes fear in their eyes.
Some pilots want their Gundam extra thick because they keep getting shot at so instead of dodging, perhaps increasing its armor is a better choice, an armor so thick they were made from the enemies themselves – the Ez8 Gundam.
Oh boy it’s definitely not a Zaku! The Gouf Custom is a fine choice for Zeon’s aces that prefer lighter mobile suits for close quarter combat over the mass-produced Zaku II.
