To Be Hero X Ep 10 Review: Fortune of A Wish

Finally! After a series of drudgingly painful saga of setting up hope then getting railed down by tragedy, we finally get an arc where things end on an actual good note. No bittersweet bs, just a heartwarming story and amazing action and the reconciliation of a lifetime. You are very lucky, Cyan!

Soooooo…I was entirely wrong about the orphanage zombie thing. Turns out it was the principal’s power going out of control that turned people into insane zombies that attack everything in sight. Okay so he’s more of a bastard than I thought. Kinda explained why his hero career was short-lived with such ominous power. So basically he spread the rumor that Cyan was stealing everyone’s luck to turn her own around. And that every time someone comes in contact with her, they may get lucky but someone else will run into bad luck instead. This created a circulating bad press that reduce Cyan’s Trust Value and thus…is a problem for the corpo. Of course, we see an “example” of this incident: Queen lost in her hero battle against another nameless “hero” – however, viewers might quickly realize it is not Cyan’s fault at all, because the guy Queen went up against was actually…X himself. And this guy is an anomaly so mysterious that noone seems to have a read on him, so Queen losing is definitely not Cyan’s fault at all.

And so, to clear her name, Cyan decided to venture into the Resident Evil Village equivalent of this world to reclaim a recording that magically appeared that can clear her name – we’ll just call this Chekhov’s MP3. So the Chekhov’s MP3 is with the principal of the orphanage and Cyan has to get to him – who is essentially at the center of the RE “village”. But luckily (pun intended), she has a new “equipment” from the hero company: a guitar that can turn into a bow that fire blue energy arrow. Ok ok let’s address the elephant in the room. Yes the projectiles look like the same one that “hit” Yueqing in the head, but as we’ve seen, Cyan is genuinely a sweet girl and this series is full of twists and turns. So let’s leave that one for now.

Now for Cyan’s journey. In the last 2 episode, there is very less combat, and most are just very slow animation with “some” panning 3D shot that actually looks a bit awkward. But they really amped this episode up with some very beautiful animation – and most of it is in 2D by the way. They really capitalized on Cyan’s 2D cuteness and traditional Japanese’s kawaii aesthetic and pour all of their resource into her combat scenes. The action was lfuid, the camera works is really cool and the choreograph is amazing, with a badass soundtrack. It’s also very nice to see Cyan has grown up a lot and can defend herself now.

She finally came into contact with the principal. And again dude spewed some bs about how Cyan cost him his orphanage and turned him into a villain blah blah blah. But Cyan actually held no grudges against him and just wanted to find Luo and that MP3 USB. Cyan’s naivete shone through the calculating schemes of all the adult executives in this series – even the reporter dude. I guess we thought he was Clark Kent but he turned out to be Eddie Brock after all. Anyway, after a beautifully choreographed fight, Cyan was able to defeat the principal and ran off to find the USB.
Cyan found the USB in the principal room, but that’s when a familiar voice rang out through the halls, and it is of course Luo – the person who has always been in Cyan’s heart all this time. After hearing the bs luck-stealer thing from the principal, Luo was under the impression that Cyan was the one that caused all of the deaths on that airplane – which actually carried Luo’s parents (as many might have guessed). I guess he couldn’t see through the principal’s obvious manipulation and actually resented Cyan because of that. She went to confront him regardless, and of course, at this point, there is no words that could get through to him. So Cyan did what Luo did to help her before: when words don’t work, use action. In episode 8, Luo used Cyan’s luck to show that even with that fortune, bad things can always happen, and vice versa, so Cyan use the exact same action in this instance: she flicked a ball towards the wall – and just like in ep 8, it hit the fire alarm and caused the sprinklers to activate. Now we come to the real bs thing – water made the radio system which was smashed by Luo’s guitar to work again. Talk about dumb luck, eh? That’s probably the most insane thing I’ve ever seen but hey! It’s Cyan, so anything can happen.

The truth about the entire matter was revealed. Cyan’s power was not stealing luck from others and give it to whoever she desired. Her power manifested because the people on that flight prayed for her survival, including Luo’s parents. They sent their hopes and wishes to her, even sang the song that they sang to Luo to her – binding them by destiny. And just like that, the people’s hope become Cyan’s Trust Value and allowed her to survive the accident. Luo finally snapped out of it, and the two were able to reunited. And yes, there are no bloodshed, no deaths, no last-minute jumpscare shot like before. Just plain, good ol’ reunion between two people who cherished each other. And I hope that they will stay together, because Luo might just be the only person that can support Cyan in this world full of deceit. However, things might ended up like Nice and his best friend, King of Destruction. I really don’t want it to come to that, since we finally, finally get a happy ending.
