Gundam GQuuuuuuX Ep 6 Review: If You Want Love, Prepare For War!
After 5 episodes, we’re pretty used to GQuuuuuuX’s Clan Battles format and some funky teen angst drama. And after the last episode, we expect some pretty spicy love-triangle shenanigans, and we indeed got that in ep 6. What we didn’t expect was we were also getting a massive dose of politics, espionage drama and the return of none other than…the Titans.

Well, let’s get the teen drama out of the way first. After Machu caught Nyaan “red-handed” in the Gundam, she shouted at her and said that it is not Nyaan’s place to pilot the Gundam. That’s definitely the Kira-Kira adrenaline talking for both because Nyaan was high from experiencing Space Crack for the first time, and Machu was burning with jealousy. And for Machu, it seems that her life is slowly being unraveled, since things were going so right but then started going super wrong after the duel with the Witch. Nyaan seems to be getting much much closer to Shuji, and it seems the Red Gundam also accepted her as a “comrade” on the battlefield, and Machu’s mom and school is putting pressure on her to choose a career for her future. She’s in the rebellious phase that will NOT listen to any adults and will stormed off. But it also makes sense since the adults weren’t willing to listen either. All in all, Machu’s on the verge of crashing out, doing something that will change her life irreversibly.
Furthermore, we’re also getting another look at her “counterweight” – Nyaan. And we got more screentime in this episode for Nyaan than ever. It’s really cute to see her doing some other things aside from delivering contraband (and kinda sucked at it). It’s also quite sweet to see her relationship with her handler. While their business is in the shady side, it seems he do care about her a great deal. And he also understand her a lot too. I almost lol when he ask her a question and he immediately pre-empt her answer, it shows that this isn’t their first time having a chat. Furthermore, the dude has a daughter that is probably around Machu’s and Nyaan’s age, so he may relate them together. A little positive moment for our war refugee. In addition, we also see her apartment for the first time, and the kind of life she has been living. For a refugee, she is living quite decent, but she leads a lonely live. You can tell that all she wanted was to spend time with Machu and Shuji – probably the only people she knows that are around her age.
Another brief thing that we saw this episode was Shuji repainting the Kira-Kira. We haven’t got many “exclusive” Shuji scenes in the entire series, it’s always with Machu or Nyaan or during battle, so seeing him alone is pretty surprising. And he did mentioned that the Kira-Kira is changing – which isn’t foreboding at all! With the amount of people that can “access” the Kira-Kira appearing in this episode, it seems the “Newtype Dimension” will also change.

Alright, time to get into the Gundam-y thing – politics. Are you ready? *cracks knuckles* Here we go!
– As per last episode, Challia’s Kikeroga has been delivered to Side 6 with a familiar Zeonic face: Al Bakharov. The fact that he requested a Kikeroga – a highly-advanced Newtype unit that is VERY useful in war – to a peaceful colony like Side 6 raised some eyebrows with the higher-ups at Zeon. Plus the fact that Kycilia Zabi is visiting Side 6 after 5 years holing up in Granada is also a rare “opportunity” for many sides. As you know, the Federation isn’t completely dead. They have become the 0079 Zeon’s equivalent so there’s remnants of them everywhere. And within Zeon, there are 2 main factions: Gihren’s and Kycilia’s. These two factions are trying to prop their leader up for Zeon’s Supreme Leader. Challia was originally from Gihren’s side, so people are suspecting some incoming foul play since he nonchalantly parked the Sodon at Side 6 for no reason. Plus he just requested his personal Newtype-enhanced Mobile Armor when Kycilia is visiting soon. It’s raising all kinds of bells.
– The first bell it rings is with Xavier – Challia’s wonderboy. It seems that Xavier is actually on Kycialia’s side, since he made frequent contact with a spy that works for her faction. Xavier did mention that if Challia truly plan to assassinate her, will he be able to kill him? So Xavier seems to be a “plant” in Challia’s team as well. However, he almost died this episode…at the hands of Side 6’s Military Police.
– Here comes the 2nd bell, Side 6 is planning to negotiate with Zeon about a certain exchange. Challia did mention that Side 6 has nothing that Zeon want – except for one thing – power. The President of Side 6 is the former chairman of One Naval – a ship-building cartel. Kycialia is planning to give them money in order to bring them over to her side. One Naval is said to rival even the biggest weapons trader in the UC timeline like Zeonic and Anaheim Electronics, so getting their support is huge. Since this “visit” from Kycialia is a secret, they are trying everything they can to plug any leaks, and to remove any potential threat. And Challia bringing a mobile armor here isn’t very gucci with them. So killing Xavier here will get the Zeon people start fighting among themselves.

– Next is Anqi’s Pomeranian gang. It turns out…that she was working with Challia Bull all along! All the combat data from the GQuuuuuuX was handed over to him for research. Which further reinforces the theory that Challia sent Xavier out on purpose to lose the GQuuuuuuX. But even so, how could he know that someone would be able to unlock the Psycommu? Unless…Challia already knew that Anqi had the Haro which is capable of unlocking the O-Psycommu for whoever Anqi deemed worthy to be its pilot. If so, it is possible that these two had known each other from way back and when the Red Gundam reappeared at Side 6, Challia came here to “work” with Anqi – to both capture the Red Gundam as well as getting data on the GQuuuuuuX. This is the most probable scenario.
– Finally, we come to our main “antagonist” for the next arc – the frontal enemy that Machu and gang have to defeat – the Titans…uhhhh I mean Amala Kamala company. Well, they sent none other than the notorious Bask Om with his adjutant – Gates Capa – to “participate” in the next Clan Battle. It’s obvious that they are here for the Gundams, and Bask Om once again revealed the Titan’s oldest trick in the book: a Cyber Newtype. We’re introduced to Deux Murasame – a familiar last name if you have seen Zeta Gundam. Yes, the white-haired loli with a muzzle around her mouth is a “sister unit” to Four Murasame, and you know what Four piloted? Exactly, the Psycho Gundam. And we will see that in the next episode. And this time, the Clan Battle might not just be in space anymore.

On Machu’s side, she did found out the truth about Anqi and her plan of handing over both the GQuuuuuuX and the Red Gundam to Challia, so she had to find out a way to save her precious Shuji. And that led her to making a plan with Nyaan. It’s obvious that their relationship is still strained, but Machu is willing to put that aside to help Shuji. What’s kinda funny to me is that she had taken the Haro as her own – even though it belonged to Anqi before. She had absolutely no suspicion that maybe, just maybe that Haro is sending data back to Anqi. The fact that the Haro can seemingly read her minds also raised a ton of question. Is the Haro a Newtype? or is there a Newtype’s brain in there? With Khara helming this series, anything can happen.
Episode 6 is extremely fast-paced, with a ton of things happening all at once on all sides, we’re obviously setting up for a great “mid-season” battle that will drastically change the course of the series after the next battle. And of course, deaths are looming on the horizon. Not to mention that Bask Om always bring bad luck with him, the ClanBats have been resulting in casualties for the last 2 episodes now, so there’s no reason to think that the next one won’t result in some more bloodshed. However, we may not be ready for what comes next.
