Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture ep 5 Review: Damocles Fall
The campaign to defeat Damocles has begun, We also have seen the Debut of Keisetsu and Artemis, honestly both of them had a really impressive performance in this episode. Casualties on both sides were inevitable, although the rebels lost Tomi, the Einberg’s Weiss rook was also defeated. Everything seemed to be going smoothly and the damage was kept to a minimum and Damocles was also down, but it was dropped in the most unexpected way.

The raid was split into two parts, luring and holding back Schwarz Queen’s team on the ground led by Kuroto and the rest in the air – the raid on Damocles led by Roze. As expected of the resistance commander, Kuroto clearly showed his role as an important key factor for the resistance group. He implemented guerrilla tactics to destroy Narah’s forces effectively. Attacking and luring them to traps, a classic but effective tactic that even Narah was impressed with Kuroto’s tactics. If I have to compare Sakuya and Kuroto, I would rate Kuroto higher in terms of tactics. It’s true that Sakuya is still inexperienced and relies more on Geass and Ash’s abilities, but that doesn’t mean she’s bad at strategizing attacks. However, to be fair, Kuroto is more experienced and knows how to use her resources well, while Sakuya is good at taking advantage of the strengths of her pieces.
F.L.E.I.J.A. Eliminator really worked smoothly this time, after only 2 throws from Ash it showed its effectiveness by completely neutralizing the F.L.E.I.J.A. warheads, while before it needed extra help from Lelouch at the last minute. Moving a little bit to the Einbergs, the more I look at the characters on this side, the more I feel like almost half of them are poorly created and a bit absurd, except for Norland who is the main villain, Catherine and Narah for fan-service of course, the rest of the characters are made in the typical racist Britannian mold. I know it because there are only 12 episodes but I mean look at Divock in this ep, he just look like a big guy with brawns over brains.

The fighting scenes between the KMFs in this episode continued to be well-performed. The battle between Zi-Apollo and Queen Asura was truly satisfying, with both machines attacking each other as if they were dancing with swords. Not only that, the two attacking machines charged at each other at a high tempo, perhaps this was the most evenly matched battle in terms of skill for Ash since the beginning of the series. Also, Narah seems to have realized that this KMF piloting style can only be one person. You can tell she’s an exceptional pilot if she can recognize the skill of others.
The battle between Keisetsu and Elcarmal is equally fascinating, although the two machines have strengths in two different fields, but in the battle scene we can still see what tools Elcarmal has to deal with when the enemy comes close and not to mention the equipment and features of this KMF completely show the personality of Divock. As for Keisetsu, this is truly a machine for Haruka, not Haruka having to express herself to fit the machine. Keisetsu can completely move and react the way Haruka wants, along with her spear skills, Haruka really turns Keisetsu into a lancer like in Fate/Stay Night.

Finally, the Zi-Ortygia – the first on-screen combining KMF. The Artemis act as an “exoskeleton” suit for the Apollo, which kinda reminds me of the Huckebein Boser or Powered Red, but much slimmer and sleeker. The red energy wing looks pretty unique as well since it’s less wings but more…spikes? But overall, this unique-looking KMF is going to drain everyone’s wallet when it gets released as toys.
In conclusion, This was an exciting and explosive episode with the KMF fighting scenes as well as the fusion of Zi-Apollo and Zi-Artemis to form Zi-Ortygia (come on Bandai give us some information that you’re going to make it). Christoph used the last F.L.E.I.J.A. to defeat Damocles, to be honest I thought Einberg would save it as a weapon for the last episodes but unexpectedly they agreed to use it to sacrifice Damocles, causing Damocles to fall into the slums, a place still full of Japanese people. Let’s see what moves Roze and Seven Shining Stars will make.
