Mecha Profile: Gundam Z – Hyaku Shiki

What do you think is the rarest color scheme for a Mobile Suit? We got the common red, white and blue for the main characters, some crimson MSes for the rival suit, and a few green, orange and black as well. But the rarest color – or rather – coating for an MS is no doubt golden. A golden MS is simply beautiful and gives you an aura of exclusivity. The Type 100 or Hyaku Shiki is one example that would last for a hundred years, hence the name.

I. History:

 – Type 100 or Hyaku Shiki as many may know is a prototype mobile suit developed by Anaheim Electronics under the Zeta Project around the Universal Century of U.C.0087. It was originally intended to be a transformable mobile suit as its problematic predecessor – the MSN-001 Delta Gundam but Hyaku Shiki offers more mobility and performance with more reliability thanks to its movable frame technology derived from the Titans’s Gundam Mk.II captured by the Anti-Earth Union Group during the Gryps War.

– Hyaku Shiki was given to Quatro Bajeena – the main disguise of Char’s Aznable after the One Year War as its main pilot with the transformable function removed by Quatro’s personal request during his career in the Anti-Earth Union Group and fought against the Titans. It participated in various missions alongside AEUG. To name a few sorties, Hyaku Shiki first participated in AEUG’s attempt to descend to Earth and attack the Earth’s Federation Jaburo base in South America but failed because they already moved and jumped into a surprise ambush by the Titans instead or the time when AEUG traveled to the Axis – where the Principality of Zeon remains at the time to negotiate but failed resulting in a three way conflict between Zeon and AEUG along with Titans later on.

– Hyaku Shiki would make its last sortie in the final days of Gryps War while it fought against the Titans’s finest – The O and Zeon’s Quebeley piloted by Haman Karn – one of Char’s nemesis. Although damaged by the Quebeley and explosion during the fight inside a warship, Quatro/Char survived leaving its wreck floating in space. Later AEUG also received a second Hyaku Shiki during the First Neo Zeon War.

II. Technical Specs & Armaments:

– MSN-0100 Hyaku Shiki is one of the successful transformable prototype mobile suits of the Zeta Project. It is the further development of MSN-001 Delta Gundam which has flaws in its transformable function. With the new movable frame technology taken from the Titans’s Gundam Mk.II, the issues were solved making Hyaku Shiki more reliable with better mobility and overall performance. The gold color plating on most of its whole body is actually a beam-resistant coating which allows Hyaku Shiki more but limited defensive capabilities.

– Hyaku Shiki can carry a fair amount of weapons. With a pair of 60mm vulcan gun as its basic, it also carries a pair of standard 0.4 Megawatts Beam Saber on its rear waist armor that can cut anything that doesn’t have beam-coating. The forearms are also able to attach shields if needed.

– For ranged weapons, Hyaku Shiki carries the standard 2.8 Megawatts BR-M-87 Beam Rifle on its backpack, improved from the older beam rifle. Powered by a replaceable e-pac it also features a small beam saber on the tip of its barrel for close combat. Another one is the 7-round magazine Clay Bazooka with a variety of ammo types such as adhesive rounds, explosives or pellets.

– For special equipment, it has a unique sensor called the Image Directive Encode or the IDE which functions as a highly accurate scanning and aiming device mounted as a visor on its head. Another one is the Sealant Launchers, much like most standard mobile suits during the Gryps War, the launcher generates a sticky substance used to immobilize targets or to seal damages. It also has signal flares, dummy dispensers as defensive decoys and fire extinguishers.

– One of Hyaku Shiki’s most powerful arsenal is the Mega Bazooka Launcher. Using its own thermo-nuclear reactor as the power source, it takes time and a lot of concentration for the mobile suit and the pilot to charge up and fire each shot which is more powerful than a warship cannon itself, the launcher is also very bulky even with its own thrusters. Other mobile suits can assist the reload process by connecting themselves to the launcher as additional energy tanks.
