Figure Review THE GATTAI Gattai Ryujin DX Dynazenon

Tachiagare! Sekai no ~
One of the most popular series in spring 2021, even to non-mecha fans. SSSS.Dynazenon rode the waves that Gridman triggered (pun intended) and delivered us another unique experience. This time, a more true-blue piloted giant robot vs Kaijuu series. Big robots, big monsters, and of course, big fan-service is always Trigger’s forte. Even before the series’ resounding success, Good Smile Company wasted no time in acquiring the license and produce a combining DX toys for Dynazenon. Learning from their experience with the DX Gridman figure, this time they teamed up with Sentinel to deliver a product that is much, much better than the Hyper Agent. This week, we’ll take a look at the individual Dyna Machines as well as their dual-combination.

2. Design
All of the separate machines are quite anime-accurate in terms of appearance and color as well. The red looks really nice and also very durable. One difference is the yellow on the hands and wheels – which are a bit more akin to bandai’s “gold”. But it is understandable since those parts are most prone to paint-scratching. The head crown on the DynaWing however, is proper metallic gold which looks very nice. One lesson that the Dynazenon improved upon the Gridman is no stickers are required for the figure, all the colors are already painted in, and painted well too.

3. Build quality
The plastic quality of this kit is very good, and the nubs are easy to handle. However, some nubs are still placed in awkward positions, typically the feet and the sides of the shoulder armor. This kit is separated into parts quite well, although there is still a regrettable point that the thruster parts on the back are not separated into parts. Although the number of decals is not small, they are mainly orange lines on the side armor and ‘Gleipnir II’, so it is unnecessary (the illustration only uses decals on the eyes).

4. Articulation
For this part, we’ll cover Dyna Soldier the most since, well – he’s one of the few that can flex his limbs in his normal mode. Dyna Soldier is pretty nimble. His head can go all the way around. The elbow can go as far as 90 degree. The knees are double-jointed. And the shoulders can also go all around as well. For other vehicles, mostly it’s just Dyna Wing’s cannon that can be moved around.

5. Gimmicks and accessories
The most notable gimmick excluding Dynazenon is Dyna Soldier’s ability to “combine” with the other Dyna units. Although only 2 out of 3 can be called a “combination”. Dyna Wing can attach to Soldier’s hip and become a hippack. Striker can become its arms just like Max Gridman (which is basically Dynazenon’s arm anyway).
The missile gimmick on Dyna Diver is also very cool! It’s a motorized automatic rocket hatch gimmick and it feels super satisfying to watch the hatch unfold.

–> Overall: The DX Gattai Dyna Machines are really fun on their own. They all have their unique quirks and gimmicks that makes messing around with 1 or 2 of them is fun on their own. Thanks to it having SSSS.Gridman’s gimmick where the “main” body can combine with the individual units as well, it does raise the playability of the figures.
