kit review: Perfect Grade – Unicorn Gundam ( Final Battle Ver. )

Perfect Grade unicorn gundam final battle ver release under the premium bandai format, is a recognizable and mildly refreshing edition to the long lines of perfect grade unicorn gundam varients. But with PG Unicorn gundam of this particular version is no different than the original red frame ver. It is the same model kit with 2 extra shield and beam gatling gun, green frame instead of red and a base to support the tri-shield configuration.

2. Design
The kit itself is accurate to the 3D model used in the OVA ( which we can see ass the beefiness of the legs and the . But with minors differences where there are opening bit for the unchained mode( mostly in the legs ). But aside from those, the kit is a perfect representation of the Unicorn gundam.

3. Build experience
Experience : if you already built any varient of the PG unicorn, you built them all.
The building experience is nice where most of the white armor part are undergated, the psycho frame are easy to handle. Overall there is nothing too extreme for anyone looking to try it. But please be patience with it. As the kit uses different plastic for the joint, and different material for psycho frame( the shield one are soft rubbery plastic) . The horn with it pre-painted gold is very scary to handle, since the gate is very close to it. Making the process of sanding it a bit trickery than usual. Because of how big the kit is, the gates are also big. Most of the time i even mistake it as a part themselves, but just look at the manual carefully you would know its not. The tough part of this kit (if you so choose to do it) are the installing the led unit. Especially part that require you to lock the wires in these hook or squeeze it into gaps( mainly on the arms and chest). And then the shoulder led, technically you have to tight it up rather than having some sort of real installation( yes i mean by it using its own wire to tight itself up to hold itself in place, the technique is so wild you wouldnt think its even bandai designing it) . But relatively it is easy, just follow the instruction.

4. Articulation
Handling it isn’t fun especially when you have the led unit installed. Due to it being big and transformable, it has basic articulation. Double jointed elbow, knees. The ankle look complicated but there isnt much of anything to do rather there to accommodate with the transformation. The neck is double ball jointed. There is one waist swivel and you can pull down the crotch for more leg posability. The joint are solid, but there isnt much you can do with it. Because of the lower half of unicorn is heavy, having unicorn in somewhat of an aerial pose would easily dislocated the waist.
Transformation is tiring, but its solid most of the time. Especially the knees, where everything lock and tight. But it is a hassle to transform it and having to disconnect and reconnect it to the base for led gimmicks.

5. Gimmicks and accessories
Accessories :
– 6 beam gatling guns
– 1 beam magnum ( 2 magazines )
– 1 bazooka ( 1 magazines )
– 4 beam sabers ( 2 beam saber effect parts )
– 1 tri- shield base adapter
– 3 shields
– 1 1/100 base for the tri-shield set up
The led lightings isn’t great, there are spots the LED failed to reach, most of the time we only see the spot of the light bulbs shine in the middle of the pieces ( Which the MGEX looks astonishing compare to the PG ) but moving the kit around with the led installed is fine, no problem of breakage which is a plus itself.
Overall , its a display piece. And it gives a real present anywhere you display it.

–> Overall: If you are a Unicorn gundam fan, then this is for you to complete the final piece of the OVA final battle between Unicorn , Banshee against Neo Zeong. But if this is not your cup of tea then you not missing out on anything if you already bought the original PG. But saying this version is not as impressive as the original red frame ver is wrong. The final battle version has that shelf presence with its Green on White and the tri-shields floating, but if you happened to have to pick between this or the red frame ver. I personally think this version is more rewarding than the red frame ver, which is the triple shield displays.
